Isaac Newton played checkers

Post by Edgar C. Atkinson »

In Peter Ackroyd's biography, 'Newton', we read
" When he (Isaac Newton- ECA) was young & first at university he played at drafts (draughts- ECA) & if anyone gave him first move was sure to beat them."
Catherine Barton Conduitt
Isaac Newton's niece

Did the great mathematical and scientifis genius also play at chess?

I'll bet that, like all genuinely refined minds, he preferred draughts. :)

Apparently he always used to play under a shady tree - when an apple fell on his head he gave up the game in disgust.
