"Our Library Was Born From This"--answer
We have been asked many times about the history of our fine library--the John Caldwell-Irving Windt Library of Checkers. Well it all started back in the late 1970's when a fellow from Orange, New Jersey sent Mr. Checkers his gold watch and a fountain pen, which he wanted to trade for one of the books that we had forsale. Mr. Checkers looked at the thousands of checker books (which God had blessed him with) that lined the walls of his apartment and he wondered why he could not loan these books out just as a regular library would. So he talked with his lawyer about this and the foundations were laid that day for our library. And the rest is now history. "Checker Trivia question of the Day". What book did the fellow want in trade for his gold watch and fountain pen, which ultimately led to the formation of our fine library? (Cont.)
