"Willie's Last Published Work"--answer

Post by Mr. Checkers »

 Willie Ryan published many fine checker books during his interesting lifetime. "Checker Trivia" question of the Day"? Which was the last of his checker books to be published pre DG reprints? "Merry Christmas" "Inky" (Cont.)

"Big League Checkers" was his final work and was published after his death.

 It is certainly nice to hear from you again Bob. You should not be such a stranger here on the ACF Forum. Willie Ryan's Big League Checkers is a fine checker book that we all enjoy browsing through, but unfortunately it is not the answer to our "Checker Trivia" question. "Merry Christmas" to you and your family. (I'm filling in again for Mr. Checkers and Ms. Becky)

In 1978 the COLES PUBLISHING COMPANY, Toronto - Canada, published "Play Winning Checkers" by W. F. Ryan, this was the last of Willie's books (aside from the Don Goodwin reprints) to be published, it was printed as a paperback. This is the same book as Willie's 1934 book Scientific Checkers Made Easy", John C. Winston Company - Chicago, which was only sold in a hard cover format with dust jacket.

You can read "A Master's Advice to Beginners" taken from Scientific Checkers Made Easy, by William F. Ryan, here at the ACF web-site.

Read a review of both books by Bob Newell.

I found some interesting reading about the COLES PUBLISHING COMPANY at a chess web-site, check it out.
