I failed to report in my previous post that this article was on the front page (above the fold) of the Friday February 1 newspaper. The paper has a circulation of about 300,000 daily and 600,000 Sunday. Colton received a call from the Colorado governor's office and has an appointment for a 'board' meeting with him in early March.

Josh,
Relax. Someday there will be a resurrection and the Bear will be back on the sideline and then Alabama will win again. lol

Thank you for sharing those articles, Bob. They are well-written, and one is very humorous! The exposure is a great thing, I think....the more the better!

I am certain that checkers has a very bright future both in the U.S. and the world over.

Josh Armstrong wrote:Haha, two to three ten year olds are not going to save checkers, facts are it is almost dead. He may like checkers now, but what about in a few years, you know..when he has better things to do? But he is a champion, of all the three people in his class range this year :)
AWWWW, Come on Josh...
Ya gotta love this image !!!

Absolutely NOTHING like some freckel-faced youth to get some media attention !!!
Personally, I believe this is EXACTLY what is needed for the game.
I am rooting for young Colton Cardie to step up to the plate within the next 10 years....I will enjoy following his career, and watching his progress.

HERE'S TO YOU, COLTON !!!!!

According to the one article

"Colton Cardie won the national youth championship last summer in Las Vegas, and plans to defend his title this coming summer. ."

So,apparently he's seen some action !

That was for the under 16 age group. Colton was the only youth to attend the world qualifier in September.

I think Alan's grandsons and Colton's brother, Conrad, were the only other entrants in that age group.

At the request of coltons Grandad, i played him a couple of games in Vegas, between matches.Delightful young boy who was very enthusiastic about checkers. It was just a shame that there were no other youth players at Vegas, something needs to be done about this, to give youth players more incentive to enter.Even if each country or state sponsored one player to the world qualifier, it would be well worth it, its not good enough to forget our youth.

Greetings kiwinurse,
AGREED !!! :!: :!: :!:

On a side note, I am impressed with the young man's chutzpah..

From the article....

The reporter asks: "Did I do anything right in that first game?"

"No."

Determined to finish off his mouthy visitors in his own style, Colton lays out the board and explains the most important rule of tournament checkers.

"You're not allowed to talk."

I LOVE IT !!!!
