TN Open 2008
Due to my health conditions and financial situation, this year, first time since 2001, I won't be able to attend TN Open. I wish everyone good luck in this tournament ... truly "mini-National" as we call it.
Sincerely,
Alex Moiseyev

Re: TN Open 2008
sorry to hear that alex. i also have some bad news. until today i fully expected to attend also, i even booked my room. i am going to have to cancel this as my wife (who is 5 months pregnant) has a very important appointment at the naval hospital and it is difficult to reschedule with our schedules being so busy already at work. so we are going to the tournament in greensboro soon to make up for it. good luck to all the participants!

Re: TN Open 2008
Hello Everyone:
A large crowd of Checkerists has gathered already at the hotel and tournament directors, Frank and Mary Davis have arrived. Jan Bulstra was carrying 2 large bags of gifts for " Just Lady" Irma Sierra that she passed out to friends. She gave me a lovely gift and very much appreciated from our good friend from Mexico:-) Alex, you and Vic will be missed and both your names have come up in conversation last night and today. 41 degrees here today and some rain, but with Checkers, the weather will not bother any of us playing ! I am looking forward to a nice tournament this week-end. Lynn Steelman and his friend just arrived and Lynn brought me a supply of numbered boards for Roger Blaine to sell on our store.

As Irma friend in good standing, I am taking one. Please, reserve it for meAlan Millhone wrote:2 large bags of gifts for " Just Lady" Irma Sierra that she passed out to friends.
The main problem is - I've got cold and my voice went completely down. Can you imagine - I am unable to talk ??? Only this thing stopped me on my wayAlex, you and Vic will be missed and both your names have come up in conversation last night and today.
Alot of snow in Columbus ... grrr ... The Russian proverb says: "It is good only in place where we aren't !"41 degrees here today and some rain

Re: TN Open 2008
Hello Everyone:
Many thanks to J.R. Smith for keeping the results posted . I had hopes of making 50%, but ended up with 13 points and lost my last four games to top Masters Dr. John Webster who elucidated me on the finer points of a Pioneer loss. My last game with Clayton I offered a draw and he wanted to wait a few more moves (smart young man). I crowned wrong and lost on a very clever ending theme. I intend to annotate that game with a diagram sometime and publish same for all to enjoy. I can play an average game till I meet up with the well booked and well seasoned top master players. " Knowledge is Power " is where it is in Checkers.
I had a great time and it was nice to see many familiar faces and a few new ones. Frank and Mary Davis did their usual excellent job of running the tournament and they are both to be commended. The host hotel was pleased to have all of us as they provided pizza and drinks one evening for all of us
My trip was 500 miles and leaving Lebanon, Tennessee I noted regular gasoline at $2.99............... When I reached Lexington, Ky. it raised to $3.25 and before I arrived home noted one station at $3.39 before 'rebate' ? Not sure on that one and will have to investigate. Gasoline is becoming a major factor in many things, Checkers is no exception.

Re: TN Open 2008
no doubt about it
and the price of gas was a major factor in my decision
i think we need more checker players to help with car pool
10 players for every state minimum....just where do we find them
congrats to all the players
