David King RIP

Post by Jay H »

I have recently learned of the passing late last year of Former ACF member David King.
I was making a delivery into the Amish community for my employer when I asked if they were familiar with David, and was told of his passing.
David was an Amishman, and played crossboard checkers within his community. He was also an avid mail player, and competed on Wood's Ladder and the PSCA Ladder, and several of the ACF "Free" Mail tournies, and the PSCA Round Robin Mail tournies.
He would also on occasion have playing sessions at his home, and had on at least one occasion the likes of Jerry Lattimer, Bert Vanderpool, Irvin Altman ,Jim Reed and Earl Hangen as guests at his home for friendly games.
I myself had the pleasure of meeting David across the board, once about 15 years ago, and most recently last summer during a vist to the Green Dragon Auction in Ephrata, PA. (Where I was joined by Bill Runge)
David was confined to a wheel chair, but he wanted to play me, as during my previous visit to Green Dragon I had "taken the scalps" of some of the "top guns".
The playing quarters at Green Dragon were quite cramped, and required the navigation of a small flight of steps. Several of David's Amish friends (along with Bill Runge) literally lifted and carried him (while still seated in his wheelchair) and placed him across the table from me.
On this particular day, it was I who was "scalped", as Mr. King educated me with a 2-0-1 drawn whipping in free-style(GAYP) play.

God Bless You,David, and my sincerest condolences go out to the entire King family.

RIP

Greetings Bill,
The young man called Junior was introduced to me as David's son at GD.
BUT, that introduction was made by Loydd Aucker....soooooooo :?: :?:
You may want to look into whether thay are open this Friday before you go, as it is a holiday.
I will not be able to make it either way.....if you do go, re-confirm David's passing to be true. I spoke to two different Amish Cabinet-makers that live in the same community (Ronks, PA.) and they were both certain that he did pass away.....

Regards
