"7-11 / 3-8 deal (incidentally touch a wrong man) happened in first game - see diagram #1. In the second game I gave him a pitch (se diagram #2) and eventually won man down game.JohnAcker wrote:Alex won the second game from Kondlo-- he played a man down most of the game due to, as he put it, "thinking of 7-11, writing down 7-11, then moving 3-8," but pulled it out in the endgame. So he and Kondlo are now tied for 2nd place going into tomorrow's rounds, where Alex will play Ron first thing in the morning.

Re: Ohio Tourney Update
Michael did extremely well this time and I congratulate him. In this particular game with Ron he didn't miss anything and Ron played ending brilliantly to save the game. Overall Ron played in this tournament extremely well and was awarded by tie for 1st place. It seems like he is in good form and ready for his match with Lubabalo Kondlo.
I also want to congratulate Lubabalo with fine performance. He lost only one round to Michael Holmes - amazing !
I didn't do very well and aren't completely satisfy with my score and quality of games, but it was better then several months ago, and I hope I'll be ready and fully armed prior going to Beiijing.
I also want to say thanks to everyone who wanted to congratulate me and other players, but didn't do it for one or another reason
Respectfully,
Alex Moiseyev

Re: Ohio Tourney Update
Congratulations to Ron King and Alex Moiseyev for their victory. (Don't know who won on tie break)
Also Congratulaions to Lubabalo Kondlo who played in a 3-move event for the first time I bleive, and took one game from the present World Champion.
Also Congratulations to Michel Holmes for his fine performance.
To match Kondlo and only 2 points behind Ron and Alex, obviously losing to Ron in then last round is not a bad achievement, and that raises expectations for your next performances
A few words to the others:
Mr. Cowie was by far the senior I believe, and 50 percent, if i calculated properly, is not bad, expecially in such a high-calibre field.
Richard Beckwith would have done better, but playing and organizing and being referee is close to a handicap of being one man down in each game from the beginning.
Maybe we should think of a referee bonus
Gene Elison and Alan Millhone were the small fishes among the sharks, but they had the grid to jump into troubled waters, and deserve my respect for that.
Obviously, if they would play in Class B, they would finish on top.
In Class B, my "old" (in fact still quite young) IYT rival John Acker scored best, and next year he will have to swim with the sharks, I guess.
I was lucky once to get a game from him on IYT. I believe this time I would suffer.
And my special greetinx to Irma Sierra, who had to compete as the only woman among the men, and if u r alone against the pack, this is a huge handicap, so keep on fighting Irma, next time you'll teach them a lesson!

Re: Ohio Tourney Update
I have agreed to help Dr. Beckwith with yet another compilation of the Ohio games. I have been ill lately and I have not had the time to study or work on any notations of any of my games or other games from the OH tourney.
Here is one more game and I think the rest will go in the OH publication.
[Event "2008 OH 10-15 23-19 6-10"]
[Date ""]
[Black "Michael Holmes"]
[White "Alan Millhone"]
[Result "1-0"]
1. 10-15 23-19 2. 6-10 21-17 3. 9-13
{Alan played this move against me in the 2006 National and he and I both played it here. This is another one of the so-called pp bad moves that isn't really bad!}
17-14 4. 10x17 19x10 5. 7x14 25-21 6. 3-7 {There are other moves but this is best. PP gives 11-15 as bad and rightly so} 27-23 7. 11-16 31-27 8. 16-20 29-25 9. 2-6 24-19
{Better than 22-18 which also draws but transposes the strength to the red game, Holmes vs. Nash 2004 Barbados. 23-18 is the best move which Clayton Nash and Alan both overlooked}
10. 8-11 19-15 {Loses. 19-16 draws.} 11. 11x18 22x15 12. 6-10
{Misses a complex win after 4-8 28-24 13. 7-11 23-18 14. 14x23 21x14 15. 11x18 26x19 16. 6-9 14-10 17. 9-14 10-7 18. 5-9 19-15 19. 12-16 7-3 20. 8-12 15-10 21. 13-17 25-21 22. 17-22 3-7 23. 18-23 27x18 24. 14x23 24-19 25. 9-14
}
15x6 13. 1x10 25-22 {loses. 28-24 draws.} 14. 4-8 28-24 15. 8-11 24-19 16. 11-16 1-0
