Ed "Pal" Bucker is seriously ill
As you recall our checker playing friend, Pal Bucker attended the Ohio State Open September 6 & 7 but didn't play because he was feeling sick before the match and as his illness worsen over the weekend he stayed in his room most of the time. I did talk to Pal today, Thursday and he told me he drove up Friday which was a 5 hour drive with Ed and son Phil Lucas. He had a headache several hours before they arrive at 7 PM. Phil took him to the emergency room Saturday.
Sunday returning back to Mooresville he was so sick he lay in the back seat. He went to the emergency room Monday which the Doctor said he should be in the hospital and sent him directly to Indianapolis to be hospitalized there at Saint Francis Hospital where he continues to be sick of unknown cause. His white cell count was elevated but now is close to normal. Pal said he was very weak and would love to go home. I don't know if he will be released. His Room is 865 at Saint Francis Hospital; 1600 Albany Street, Beech Grove, Indiana 46107 Telephone is 1-317-782-6105 Our prayers are with him and hoping for a speedy recovery.

Just spoke with Pal. His voice was weak enough but he told me that this is better then earlier when he was unable to speak or even stand. He still can't walk on his own, but he can stand and things slowly are getting better. Pal said that he hopes to be back home by the end of this week but it may take some time to get his strength back in full.JR Smith wrote:Telephone is ...

Pal will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Wednesday... I got this from a close friend of Pal's. He is very weak--is not eating and I could tell by his voice (which I could barely hear) that things were not going well for him--health wise, etc. His doctor told him that he thought it was "sepsis"- which is not good. Let's keep Ed in our thoughts and prayers and maybe a card would boost his spirits.

I knew Pal was ill at the Ohio Tourney and am sad to hear he is still under the weather. He told me he had not felt well for sometime and did not know what his problem health wise was. Wishing him all the best for a full recovery.

I want to thank everyone for their calls, e-mails and well wishes here on the forum. I want you to know it does lift my spirts to know I have friends that care
I see very little difference from day to day but I can see that from a week go I have gained strength and a hugh difference from when I first went into the hospital two and a half weeks ago. The Dr. believes it was a viral infection that got into my blood probably from my intestinal track. He tells me that he has only seen a couple of other case like mine. It looks like it is just a matter of time and rest before I'm back to my old self maybe a few more weeks or so.
