First 3 were Brian Lucas, Lindus Edwards and Liam Stephens. All 3 on 14 points. The minileague scores were 3,2,1.

18 players entered. We played 10 rounds, 6 on Saturday and 4 on Sunday.

Jan, you were sorely missed! Please come again next year!

Congratulations to Brian Lucas for winning the Welsh Open 2008!

Also congratulations to Lindus for constantly finishing top 3.
Did you have a perfect tournament?

and finally congratulations to Liam, who seems to have recovered well after the German Open.

Top 3 on .....................I4 points out of a possible 40?......that cant be right? Or was it just one game per round?? for a total of 14/20 points that would be more pheasible.

The Beijing Ty seems to be having a big effect on the size and the quality of the fields over these last few Tys such as the Brits Open and the Welsh, wat you might call the "Chinese Syndrome D-effect".Im sure normal order will be restored next year with big fields and high quality players alike.

Well done to Brian Lucas and to Liam Stephens who were "punching above their weight so to speak in terms of their Ratings and also to Lindus one of the top U.K. players who seperated them.

Hi Ingo,
No, not quite "perfect" on this occasion I regret to say! I missed a definite win in the penultimate game and it cost me the title. But, never mind as there is always another tournament. I am pleased enough with my play in this and previous Welsh Open Championships, not having lost a game, and not being in a losing position, in any of the eighty-six games. Hopefully I will be able to play better next year if my health improves.
Many congratulations to Brian Lucas and Liam Stephens who played great checkers. Rawle Allicock was placed 7th, which shows how tough an event this was.
Many thanks to Dr John Reade on running the event magnificently as always. Also many thanks to John Morgan and his wife Ruth for all the fine work in staging this event.
As I am falling asleep as I write these few words I will sign off now :0)

Hi John,
It was a gayp event. I prefer three-move in fact as I find it easier to score wins

It would be nice if someone posted the full results of the Welsh and British Open as no one has seen them yet.

Quite impressive. Congratulation to top 3 players and all other who joined party. It seems like this year overturn for Welsh Open seriously improved and number of participants jumped up.

I beleive that Lindus rating is absolutely correct matching his level, but obviously Brain and Liam ratings are underrated.

Alex
