Promoting Checkers

I would just like to share a few things with all my friends around the world on this great event coming up and what is happening here in my world.

I was asked to attend a Bank Luncheon yesterday.I accepted and had a wonderfull time.I met people of great importance there.Many were business men and women in our area.Each bank rep asks someone in their community to go and speak of either their business or something about theirselves.

I had no idea that me as a checker player would hush a room full of business owners as i did.I spoke of the ACF,Youth in the game and the upcoming trip to China.I also spoke of needing Corporate Sponsoring,how we could help children in their quest in education.

Many questions were asked on how checkers could help the education in our little game called checkers.Many were amazed that the game they played as kids was such a intense game.I spoke for about 45mins ( which I tried many times to sit down but was asked to continue to speak about my trip and my background in my quest and adventure to China.

After 45 mins of speaking I do say the room was quiet as you could hear a pin drop and many questions were being asked.I found out that all it took was as I have said many times to promote our game all we need to do is plant 1 seed like I did and talk about it.

I am now speaking today to newspapers,radio stations,and tv crews.My time I told them was limited but would give them a interview because I felt this was a good time for the ones heading over to a World Tournament like this could open eyes and ears to show that checkers does have a place.I am also speaking to schools,4 in fact.I am hoping to be able to get the education board here to allow checkers to be a part of the school system.

At the luncheon I heard the same thing over and over. Checkers has a website? Checkers has tournaments? And many as I said never even knew it.

I believe it is time for us as ACF members and ones who love the game to make everyone know that there is such a thing.This will keep the Grand Old Game alive and maybe someone will someday sponsor us all.

Thanks Kimmy...............you done good job as always in you r promotion of the game not for your own popularity (like alot of posters on this site on some ego trip do) or vanity or a points scoring excersice but for the good of checkers,and fair play to you for doing that hopefully it will bear fruit,checkers needs more people like you, well done Kimmy.


Unfortunatley 90% of the hard work is done by 10% of the people................Thats "Murphys Law" ......nOT mURTYS???
