South Africa Vs. USA Team Match

Post by Alan Millhone »

Hello Checker/Draughts Players:

It was discussed in Medina that it would be nice if the USA team could at some point travel to South Africa to play a mixed match (GAYP and 3-Move) or as Mr. Alex suggests an exhibition, etc. and a bit softer to further establish relations between these two continents. My hope is that the Beijing Mind Sports will further bring public attention to our wonderful game and perhaps sponsors will be more readily located.

To clarify, the ACF has not contributed one cent towards Mr. Kondlo. His coming here was thru sponsorship of Evergreen/Uni and its owners. They put up funds for both players plane travels , hotel rooms, meal allowances, prize money. Any other funds expended were out of my own reserves.

To date there is no money for USA players to travel to South Africa. In Medina we had a film crew on hand all week filming players and doing one on one interviews. The crew plans on traveling to Barbados and South Africa and are working on a documentary to be shown on television. Rome was not built in one day, so we all need tobe patient and work towards making a team match a reality. Lubabalo tells me there are around a thousand Draughts players in his Port Elizabeth area and masses of players can be found along the road sides playing the game on every type of board and pieces. I look forward to traveling to South Africa one day to meet all the players and engage in some friendly games whilst having conversation and establishing excellent relations between our two Draughts communities.

Hello Everyone:

Yes, Mr. Colin Webster and myself had a very productive conversation today for a good hour and I feel we 'cleared the air' on many items . I told Mr. Webster that I will do all I can to work with MSSA to further advance Draughts and relations between the USA and SA.

We are 12,000 miles apart as far as distance but I feel after todays productive chat that covered many topics that in that hour we developed a rapore that should have been in place several years ago and I feel we got off on the wrong foot several years ago and we will both do our best to rectify that.

Sincerely:
