A beautiful set of ACF checkers came out in 1943-45. (Cont.)

I did a little research, from The NC Checker Assoc. web site I found some history. On Sept. 1, 1947 The American Checker Association and The National Checker Association merged and on May 1, 1948 The American Checker Federation was chosen as the name for this newly formed organization.

I'm scratching my head here, how could there be an ACF Checker set from 1943-45? if there was no ACF before 1948?

In 1975 a checkers set was sold that had the American Checker Federation name tied to it. I don't know who manufactured it, on the box in large letters it said "TOURNAMENT CHECKERS", it was an inexpensive checkers set a lot like the ones sold by Milton Bradley and Parker Bros. but it had red and white checkers and a green and buff board, unlike the black and red checkerboards and checkers sold by the mentioned companies.

The Checkers might meet ACF specs. but if they say "ACF CHECKERS" they had to have been made in 1948 or later, because Palomino is correct there was no "ACF" until 1948.

Ha, Ha, He, He, I have a new idea about this now, Gene I'm glad you brought this back up, your post started me to thinking about this some more. I believe we have been tricked into thinking too much inside the checker box! (I remember someone once told me to think outside of the box) I think this is a trick question, I went back and read the question again, it doesn't say they are Ameriacn Checker Federation checkers, it just says ACF checkers. I googlied "ACF" and look what came up:

1. American Chestnut Foundation
2. American Culinary Federation
3. Army Cadets Force
4. Academic Competition Federation
5. Arizona Community Fellowship
6. Agricultural Christian Fellowship
7. American Cinema Foundation
this list could go on and on, 8, 9, 10 etc...

Over the years there have been many companies and organizations that put out checker sets as advertising or to commemorate an anniversary or some other special occasion.

I don't know who put this set of checkers out but now I believe the date is correct, it's just a question of which "ACF" was it? Could have been any group calling it's self "ACF".

During WWII the Australian Comfort Fund (ACF) gave out these beautiful checker sets the the wounded soldiers in the hospitals. The ACF is a similar to the American Red Cross. (Cont.)

I was sure that in this case the acronym ACF stood for some other organization other than The American Checker Fedreation just didn't know who it was. I googled "Australian Comfort Fund" and found a little history on them.
