Live Games ??
Live Games ??
Hi all
Being absolutely impressed by the live coverage given to the 10x10 games ( ok so we have to get out of bed at 6 in the morning to watch them )the following question began to manifest itself ;; ie. Are the checker games to recieve the same treatment??
If so this will be fantastic acheivement ; being able to watch games of draughts as if one would watch a football game.
I understand that it is a Dutch company ( so being Dutch they programmed for 10x10 only??) who developped the program ;
But if the answer for this time is negative then it should definately be used for world championships or national tys.
Ok I can hear Josh scream victory over the copyright discussion , but then I believe that the annotations then ( as they probably will be for this 10x10 ty ) will only be held to copyright.
I definately do not want to rekindle the fire ( and I appreciate the possibility of being able to watch such giants as tchichov or valneris play ) but i seem to have this image of grown human beings opening their heads and throwing pieces of brain on a butchers counter for free...
So will checkers be LIVE ??

There are two ways to handle this: having electronic boards, or assign someone who will post games manually in real time.
It is a question to WCDF which action the took ... or don't do anything.
I've seen many draughts games translated in real life in Internet, and whatever they have in Beijing is at ordinary level, nothing special or significant.

Re: Live Games ??
I would say that for 10x10 this is piece of cake ; but try posting simultaneously 20 games of checkers , generated by
"touch sensitive "" boards.
I would say that for the moment ; on this level ; they are out of our league here the 10x10 guys.
I don't want to nor would I dare knock the work of whoever ( if someone is going to take time to do it) will be ''manually''
publishing the games on internet , but its a bit like cave men and spacemen ,don't you think,?
Ok I say this time it will be done like this and my hat goes off to anyone doing the job manually ; but I think that the possibilities of what we can introduce for the better of our game are there for all to see

So ... stay in cave and watch at space !
I am an old sceptic and don't really believe that things in Anglo-American Draughts World wil be seriously improved to the rest of my life
See you soon in Beijing, boy !

His score and quality of games are matching his level and rating. Results are posted on WMSG site http://www.wmsg-draughts.org ==> Click on "Standings" icon, "Forbidden City" tournament.tommyc wrote:I believe Ron King is playing in the 10x10 in Beijing does anyone know how hes getting on?
From 5 games Ron won one game and lost 4.
Lets hope that this will not have an influence on his perfomance in Anglo-American Draughts event.
Here are couple examples of Ron "accomplshments" on 10x10 board in Beijing.

F.Malobie - R.King
....... 24-29??
15x24 29x20
28-23+.

F. Husejnov - R. King
...... 07-12??
25-20 14x25
34-30+.
It would be also a true to say, that in both games he had a weak positions prior he made a losing moves.
I played with Ron 10x10 games one time during USA 3-moves National in 1996 in Danville, VA - he drewed one or two games out of 20. I really don't understand why he entered this event in Beijing ... maybe just for fun? ... but where is fun ?

Agreed!!
The man was a fool to enter such an event were only the worlds best would be playing ... and I also believe that he should never have entered the 10x10 either LOL

Re: Live Games ??
Well, maybe he has fun taking new challenges.
Do you remember Carolina Klueft?
She dropped a sure gold medal at Beijing , just to finish without a medal in the long jump.
I consider her a hero.
She looked for a real challenge and not for the easy way to achieve fame.
And that she failed does not make it a smaller merit.
Also he has a week longer to overcome the jet lagg.
Does not look like a bad idea to me
Also, it makes a player knowing that he has limits if he has a losing streak. Keeps you on the ground, as we say in German.
That is no bad lesson either, and he may profit from it in the Checkers event.
Anyway, it was his decision and Barbados had no better player to offer, so why not take a try?
Would be a waste not to try it in my opinion.
Some blame Ron King for being too ambitious, but honestly, here he proves to have true grit to face the music against opponents of higher class.
In my mind he deserves credit, though you are right that he made mistakes and played bad, but was it his aim to win a medal at Draughts 100?

I don't understand where is the challenge, but you probably right. As far as I know - they should have a 10x10 blitz tournament at the end of week. If my guess is correct, I am willing to take a chance and play organisers allow me to do this.Ingo_Zachos wrote:Well, maybe he has fun taking new challenges.
American team is represented very well in 10x10 field and Alexander Mogilianski, former Soviet Union 10x10 grandmaster who resides today in Philadelphia, is in leading group in Forbidden City tournament and has all chances to pass "top 8" bareer and play in final stage.

Re: Live Games ??
I think that it is a bit unfair to criticise Ron for entering the 10 x 10 tournament. I know that Ron has played in 10 x 10 tournaments before and has not had good results so I very much doubt that he has entered this tournament with expectations of getting a medal. This is the first event of its kind and has attracted many of the worlds top players as well as some of the worst, perhaps he relished the opportunity to play one of the top players or perhaps he set himself the target of a 50% score? I think that he is a brave man to enter and put his reputation on the line and he deserves credit for doing so, it cannot be good for his ego to lose so many games to average club players. I do not know his motives for entering the tournament, but perhaps he entered simply because he loves the game is there anything wrong in that?

What do you have to type into Internet Explorer to see the live games?

Re: Live Games ??
Ron has always been interested in 10x10. I played him at the London MSO in 1999. Early on I gave him 4 pieces for nothing. I wan't used to the backward takes! So I immediately resigned. He said I was a gentleman!
