Tommy Canning finally joined a book team which certainly should significantly increase the quality of entire work and final product!Alex_Moiseyev wrote:

Re: "Beijing Olympic Draughts Tourney" book
You should "error-check" the game sheets of the players
Looks like the hands begin to tremble around move 20 in many cases, and especially in the later rounds the handwritimg deteriorates
Many players, including World Champions, write down "9-13" meaning 24-20 or "27-23" meaning 6-10.
We should recommend to use numbered boards to avoid or minimize these mistakes.
I have edited rounds 1-5 completely so far, but a few games need "error checking", so I will publish them as soon as I have entered all games and checked the "questionable" games twice or thrice, as otherwise a few players would be upset about the "mistakes" I made.
Maybe a "brilliancy "price for the best written gamescores would be a an excellent idea

Re: "Beijing Olympic Draughts Tourney" book
Hi Ingo,
Your doing a good job logging through all those games because im sure its quite difficult with all the different handwriting.
1.6 These numbers should not be printed on an official draughtboard.
I know some players have a problem and dont like to see numbers on the boards and I know this would obviously reduce some score sheet errors but of course it would mean convincing the players to adopt these conditions. Perhaps players should adopt the oldbury notation were this would avoid 27-23 instead of 6-10 etc.. I think dereks argument was that it is easier to spot C.R. transpositions but I cant see this style of notation being adopted anytime soon. I know current score sheets tend to have a numbered board on them for both sides so I supose this is the solution in vogue for now.

Shane McCosker

The current WCDF rules specify for the Offical board not to be numbered. We should recommend to use numbered boards to avoid or minimize these mistakes.

Re: "Beijing Olympic Draughts Tourney" book
Ingo, you can write an article (0.5-1 page) for book: "How I processed score sheets" or "Complexity of recording" ... etc
You can aslo make a photos of most interesting score sheets
and insert it into text. No kidding, this will be fun and attract readers.

Well done Ingo
You are doing a truly immense job .
As Shane says , deciphering 42 peoples hand- writing is a huge job , but it's even bigger when the writing is done under stress of play , etc. etc.
Good luck to you , oh and if you ever manage to uncode my game round 1 game 2 then I'd be grateful if you could mail it to me , as I can't read my bloody writing on the scoresheet!!!
Greetings from rainy paris
