Jim Loy's Checker Problems

Post by Alan Millhone »

Hello Checker/Draughts Players:

In my today's mail I received (2) copies of Mr. Loy's newest book. Book is spiral bound and contains 272 pages . He calls his new book , Vol. 1 --- Correcting the Ancients and every page contains diagrams and corrections of Wm. Payne, Joshua Sturges, Henry Spayth, John Drummond, James Wyllie, etc. He also devotes sections to First Position and Second Position and The Move. A fine book to add to your library and worthy of purchasing in order to 'sight solve' problems to enhance one's visual acuity.

Shipped in US $20.00 postpaid and $ 26.00 rest of the World.

You can reach Mr. Loy at: 1104 S. Montana, H 7
Bozeman, MT. 59715

Mr. Loy is busy adding to our rich Checker lore, why not support him and order a book :-)

Sincerely:
Alan Millhone, President

Hello John:

Nothing on line as yet and my 'scan and paste' ,etc. skills are lacking :-) Perhaps Mr. Loy will pick up on your post and he will add something to whet your appetite on his new book.

Alan

It's a fun book, with 766 diagrams. Some of the problems will actually knock your socks off. There are about six diagrams per page, and the solutions are upside down below the diagrams. And most of the problems correct ancient publish play (209 of the problems correct John Drummond!) and I show the variations that they correct.

It's in the ACF online store: http://usacheckers.com/viewstore.php?cat_id=2. Volume II will be out in three or four years, as I have other projects in the works. I'll try to make some images of my book covers for the ACF store. But I have to work on the December ACF Bulletin too.

Thank you. I am constructing my money bin, right now. A little stupid humor there, can't help myself. This book was a bear to print. I have only printed 16 copies so far, took me two days to print. I'll print more later. All those diagrams and upside-down text boxes seem to overflow my laser printer's memory, causing the print driver to crash (in a variety of ways) after only a few pages. Maybe my printer has bad memory, but I printed the larger Lowder book in two passes (even numbered pages first) on the same printer. I printed about 40 copies of that book in two days.

Very clean book, Jim. Thanks for duking it out with your printer. The book may not fit in my pocket, but it is light enough to read on the subway. Good luck building a nest egg with the proceeds.

I guess postings like this belong on the Market Place part of the Forum: http://usacheckers.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=14. See my posting there entitled Jim Loy's Checker Problems, Vol. I, and read about an embarrassing error in my book!
