Re: IL 2008 A line that was almost a Switcher

Post by Jay H »

Greetings All,
Michael, I believe, originally referred to his game as "a switcher "( And still has in the edited title of the thread).....not a game on the switcher.
Alex, in a valient attempt to
" ...be accurate with terminology, because if Masters don't do this - we lose our history and heritage and leave young generation with nothing in the past."

.....posted that......

" This opening ( 9-13 21-17 5-9) doesn't have a name Switcher. If I am wrong, please, correct me. Only GAYP opening 11-15 21-17 9-13 can be named as Switcher.

Seems like the notion may indeed be that 21-17 as second move to any opening move may be "a switcher line", as Michael initially believed.
But,as Alex proposed The Switcher opening is universally known as 11-15, 21-17, 9-13...

An interesting debate....

Jay H
And again, thanx for the games !!

Switchers-quality

Post by Michael Holmes »

I have completely turned away from the computer sources as my #1 pick. Especially with the 8-piece evaluating the opening move 9-13 as a negative 1 and so-on. I only use them now as a confirmation of lines I want to play rather than the strength of it. I use what others have said in book or what my personal experience and knowledge leads me to belief. The computer only confirms a few things to me.....win, loss, or draw!

Yes, I did notice the draw that you had pointed out but also found many weaknesses in it too. These complex positions require too much analysis to include in brief summaries and to be honest I only look at the ideas for the most part.

I don't know nothing about checkers because I've never spent the time, but I do respect and enjoy watching Masters play. I understand from hearing different Master players reference 1115 2117 913 2521 811 as Switcher or James Wyllie's Switcher. 913 2117 59 E on H "The 59 Switcher" and 913 2117 69 J on F "The 69 Switcher"
