Hi-Lites of the year 2008 ?

Greetings all....
Not much happening on the ACF Forum as of late....
I am hoping to jump-start this forum with some subject matter.
During some recent e-mail correspondence with JR Smith, we touched on the subject of the American "Grand Slam" success of Marion Tinsley and Walter Hellman in the early 1970's.
It made us think of the modern day equivelent....
It also made me think of the accomplishments of Alex Moiseyev in 2008.
He won the 11 Man Ballot World (?? is this world recognized ?) Match Championship.( To which he was offerred a potential "independent challenge" here on the Forum), the American 3-move National Tourney, and the Olympic Gold in Beijing. He also defended the Ohio State Match Championship against Richard Beckwith, along with some other ty successes.

A most remarkable year....and , IMHO, the "Hi-Lite", the greatest accomplishment of the year,i.e., his success in play.
( And, this also , again IMHO, one of the greatest years ever for any Checkers/Draughts player)
Anybody else agree, dis-agree with this assessment of 2008 ?

The Soviet Union pilot Pokrishkin had 59 officially registered individual victories in the 2nd war. You can read about him here:

I personally don't trust much German numbers because often they counted number of engines, not aircraftrs.

here is a quote from article:

Pokrishkin arrived at the end of the war with the rank of Colonel and was awarded three times Hero of the Soviet Union. His total score was 59 confirmed personal victories according to most sources. He was thought to have more (probably 80), but the Soviet claims procedures were strict. To get an individual claim, you had to:
1) have an independent witness, not part of your flight, or part of that combat engagement (ground observer, another flight nearby, etc.).
2) OR, have the wreckage of the victim on the ground
3) AND demonstrate that your actions alone were responsible for the claim.
Any claim that could not meet these criteria were either dismissed altogether, or sometimes awarded as a 'Shared' claim. In 1944, with the Red Army advancing, recovering wrecks became much easier, and so claims could be verified more easily on that basis.

All these numbers r just shameful and should not boost a person's reputation.
As may grandfather told me, "A war is not the time for heros, it's a time to survive"

All I know about WW I statistics is that during WW I there was only one air raid on Dortmund, my home town, in 1917, and it killed only one person: a soldier on his last day of vacation!

To make one thing clear:
I don't wish to you that kind of luck, I wish good luck to you all for 2009.

to me Beijing was the climax of 2008, though I braught back a bad cold and an even worse result and 376 games that I had to deicpher.
As I had not too much free time after the WMSG, I got stucked in round 6, but now that I have holidays left I approached to round 7.
Sorry for that delay and the fact that I could not make a program for the German Open 2009 so far.
So far only one game is missing (King-Durdyev 0-2 in round 5, which began 1.10-14 23-19, 2.6-10), and many games were unreadable from a certain point and needed reconstruction.
Especially I ask you to skip the habit of using a "X" or "-" to note a capture, as in almost 3 out of 4 cases there were more then one way to leap, and sometimes after five subsequent "X" there r about two dozen possible positions, many of them quite reasonable, so if yuu want to do the man who edits those games a favor, use the square numbers plz!

To William:
As soon as I have finished, I will snail-mail the sheets to you, so that you can proofread it, as I suspect that my "reconstruction" of some games may in fact be more guesswork then I think it was.

To Sune:
I will try to make the Danish open this year, so keep a seat warm for me.

To Shane:
Alex loves checkers, and you just got him wrong. Also, you r right that I should not blame 3-move for my results, and I will give it a 2nd/3rd chance.

To Alex:
I want to order a copy of the WMSG tournament book, and I have pictures of all players, their birth dates, and a few reults they have made in the past. I know you love checkers, as you love shashki and draughts 100, but to some it is confusing that love can be given to more then one game. Forgive us plz.

To Liam:
after the WMSG games r edited, I will finish translating the GO 2007 book and then start to wok on 2006 and 2008.

To Jan:
Good luck for your WC match.

You're not old enough to quit checkers, but you would surely be missed, so give it a chance.
