I read somewhere, recently, that the estate of the late Gene Lindsay left a bequest to the WCDF,
so that association may soon be awash with funds. This presents a golden opportunity for the WCDF to do its bit for the global recession by hosting the women’s freestyle match at a neutral venue and paying the contestants and venue expenses thereof. Buncrana would seem to be an ideal choice, if the Inishowen Club and the NWDF are prepared to take it on.
Just my tuppence worth……………..

Re: Women's World Championship Freestyle Match Solution ?
Liam,
Gene's will said to set up a fund for qualifying tournaments only -- he left no provisions for world title matches (although someone else is welcome to consider a new "world title match fund" in their estate planning). At present, WCDF's role is merely to solicit bids and coordinate title challenges & qualifiers, not privately fund title matches (nor is there a huge bank account of funds to do this.)

Just to clarify some things re Liam and Richard...............according to John Reades Lancashire Checkers newsletter!!
This report sent to John Reade by Richard Beckwith.
The WCDF will receive $51,000 from Gene Lindsays very generous will.
The ACF get $51,000 to implement an International Match Fund.
$51,000 to the Tennesse Checker Association.
and $200,000 to the ACF for the 3 move National Fund.

Well, $10,000 would go a long way towards meeting the players expenses.
That would still leave $41,000 for the WCDF to put in the bank or play around with.
