MO State Open 2009
I am glad to confirm that this year I will attend this event and come to MO. Yesterday I had received email from Wilma Wolverton where she and other directors kindly offered me a complimentary room, and I pleasantly accepted this offer !
First (and last) time I played in MO in 2001, Wentzville, May 6-7. As of today I remember four interesting facts from this event:
1) People were very kind and friendly, soft - real "country paradize" and big difference with eastern part of USA.
2) One player in almost drawn position with me gave away 3 mans in one move !!!
3) I was able to beat Brian Hinkle in both games.
4) One time I was called for judgement. Michael Holmes played with someone else. Ending looked drawn, but I was able to find a very interesting pretty win, which none of oppenents saw during the game. Refereee decided to score a win. I really didn't like such outcome and asked them don't do this, but their decision weren't change.
I'll be very glad to see all my MO friends again at the end of upcoming week. Directions show that the distance is around 680 miles from my house and approximately 11 hours driving.
Regards,
Alex

Re: MO State Open 2009
I finished first with 24 points, Bill Wethington was 2nd with 22 points and is a new State Champ. I don't know exactly results of last round, but assume George Cook suppose to win a 3rd prize.
Bill was the only one who beat me in single game and broke my streak !
I received $70 check for 1st place, winner trophy and sold few more copies of Sixth. It was a real pleasure and great time for me to be there and I want to thanks everyone who helped me to achieve this, including complimentary room and lovely dinner on Saturday.
Bill didn't record our historic game (unbelievible blunder on my part by missing a shot 2 for 3), where he beat me. After the game was over, he paid me $20 for the text of game !!! Another good reason to record games and make money on this

Alex

Was RMDionisio there? What were some of the other scores? And Bill's last name is Wethington-I think.

Yes, but he didn't do very well, although not too bad. He was up and down most of the tournament, playing some really good games, and some not so good. He is very potential but needs more practice and especially - study.Michael Holmes wrote:Was RMDionisio there?
