Re: English Open-Knighton
Many upsets occurred during the English Open, as at Beijing, when players of low ranking defeated the "masters." Brian Lucas lost both games to Anthony Rose to cite but one instance. Naturally it would be ideal to run the two events as described Tommy as it would be far better for the more lower rated players. This year's English Open proved, as did the event a Beijing, that even the "cannon fodder" are in with a chance, which is a a good thing I think

I spoke to Colin on the phone last night. He is back at home now and I am glad to say he is fully recovered form his heart attack last week. He has been advised to take it easy for a few weeks, but I am sure it won't be too long before he is back in action. Maybe at Stonehaven in July.

Well i dontbelieve in tis cannon fodder mentality in all fairness,if a 2 section Ty is expected then thats what a player expects. These odd acts of bravado that occur when a senior player beats a Master are all right but on this occasion Brian Lucas lost his first 3 rds so its not a great example,if players cant travel to Tys confidently in the knowledge that they will be competing at their own level then it does no favors to draughts and in the long run will cause irrepairable damage and whether you like the WCDF ratings or not they need to be implemented as a cut off point to ensure where players are placed and in what section .
Always read "Cannings Compilation 2nd Edition" every day.

I cannot disagree with a word you have said Tommy. It is so sad to see so few players attending the British and English Opens these days, and even sadder to contemplate future events when doubtless even fewer will attend. Only ten entered the masters section of last year's British Open.
