Roll-up vinyl board with 2" squares?

Post by jaguar72 »

All,
You gotta wonder why no one makes a buff and green vinyl roll-up board with 2" squares (or maybe someone does and I haven't done enough research...). I've tried a lot of places (The Chess House, Wholesale Chess, Cajun Chess, Chess Cafe, House of Staunton, USCF, etc) and have had no luck at all. I've found 2.25" (chess tournament standard, more-or-less) and 1 and 7/8" (both of which work okay, of course...they have algebraic notation, though, which I don't mind) and the Chess Cafe even had a buff/black with 2" squares but I haven't, for love nor money, been able to locate the "proper" ACF size roll-up in the correct colors.

I like roll-up boards for the same reason most chess players do: no glare and easy transportability. They are also inexpensive. I can also roll the board up and whack my cats (just kidding...).

I apologize if this topic has already been discussed in the forum and I'm flogging a dead horse; I did not see it listed but may have overlooked it. I think Bob Newell may have adressed the issue on his web site a couple of years ago The Newell article was referenced by Jim Loy on his excellent site...).

Anyhow, if anyone has a source for such a board, I would hugely appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction.

I really, by the way, like the Crisloid checkers sold by the ACF.

Very Rerspectfully (V/R),

All who may be interested,

Ref my previous email on this topic: here is a link to Mr. Newell's excellent article from his lovely checkers site...

He has (as I'm sure everyone probably knows...) written and posted a lot of other really good stuff... .

What a great game we play!
