"It Was, But It Wasn't"--answer
This George Wales 1950's checkerboard, at a glance, looked like any other board, but it wasn't. "Checker Trivia question of the Day". What was different about it? (Cont.)

This is one of the most interesting boards. It has 8 rows across the board (from left to right), but only 7 rows from front to back. (Cont.)

What was the idea here with the 7 rows top to bottom, was it just to be different?

This was a commercially made checkerboard. Why there was only 7 rows deep I do not know, but it sure changed the strategy of ones game having to meet your opponent face to face right away with your first moves. (Cont.)

I guess if you had the double corner on your right you would be playing red and if the the double corner was on your left you would be playing white. and you would need to turn the board around every other game. Not having the double corner diagonally across from you would put a different twist on the game , wouldn't it?
