I have put new kingsrow install files at the web site. The new version has a parallel search engine that can use up to 4 search threads, so users with dual and quad core CPUs can get much faster searches. The install file also has a new version of checkerboard which fixes some bugs and has a new Engine Options dialog which makes it much easier to setup endgame databases, select alternate book files, and control the number of parallel search threads. Kingsrow and checkerboard are now compatible with Vista's User Account Control, which means they no longer write files under the Program Files tree. Downloads and more info at the Kingsrow web site, http://pages.prodigy.net/eyg/Checkers/KingsRow.htm

Ed, many thanks for your service ! I've done everything with installation of Vista64 KR and CB but I was unable to find a dialogue to control a parallel search ... or maybe this happened automatically ? Where is it ?Ed Gilbert wrote:and has a new Engine Options dialog which makes it much easier to setup endgame databases, select alternate book files, and control the number of parallel search threads.
Alex
I am playing checkers, not chess.

Alex, use the menu Engine, Options, click the "More Options" button, and the Parallel Search control is at the bottom of the dialog that appears. If for some reason you do not see a "More Options" button, then you are not running the new CB (version 1.70). If this is the case, check the properties on the shortcut that you used to launch checkerboard and make sure it is pointing at the correct location of your new CB/Kingsrow installation.

Re: New KingsRow is now available
Alex, keep in mind that the new checkerboard.exe is in the kingsrow install package, not on Martin's web site. This is unusual and probably my install notes do not make this very clear. If the last thing you install is the CB package from Martin's site then you will have the older CB. Eventually Martin will update his install package to contain the new CB, or if he does not I will make a complete CB installalation and make it available at the kingsrow web site.If for some reason you do not see a "More Options" button, then you are not running the new CB (version 1.70). If this is the case, check the properties on the shortcut that you used to launch checkerboard and make sure it is pointing at the correct location of your new CB/Kingsrow installation.
