An excellent proposal by Tommy Canning which I wholeheartedly support.
That would be a very magnanimous gesture and hopefully put an end to the repetition of old arguments and matters getting worse and worse, as referred to by Jim Loy in an earlier posting. It would also obviate the need for a, possibly long drawn out, tribunal to decide on the rights or wrongs, and allow all sides to emerge with honour intact.
A number of colleagues and friends of many years standing, whom I greatly respect, have told me that my call for the WCDF to dissolve was unfair. I take that criticism on board and if the WCDF committee would consider Tommy’s proposal, I would welcome that and withdraw my call for the WCDF to dissolve and wish them well in their endeavours.
If it is objected that finance is not available for such a match I propose the setting up of a subscription fund. I will donate the first €100 to such a fund.
I do urge the WCDF to reconsider.

I agree with your every word Liam. Let us hope this match can, after all, be played.

Re: Women's World Freestyle Championship
Several days ago I had received an email with attached document. WCDF President Hugh Devlin did tremendous job by compiling all correspondence during almost 2 years (!) and puttinbg everything together in chronological order.
70% of this document are emails and quotes, with minimum comments. For everyone who reads this document, there is no any smoke and it is perfectly clear - whats happened and why happened.
If anyone is interested or has questions - let me know I will send you this document. I already passed this document to several people and all of them after they read this document, stopped posting anything on this forum.
This document will be delivered to all delegates of GA meeting. Lets democracy take a course.
Respectfully,
Akex Moiseyev

Re: Women's World Freestyle Championship
Misspelling or mispronouncing of names may seem trivial to some, but it is highly insulting to many people everywhere. Alex Moiseyev misspells many names. Jan Mortimer misspells many names. Richard Fortman misspelled many names; I think Basic Checkers misspelled Ayrshire sixteen times. Checkers literature is littered with many thousands of misspelled names. Around the year 1900, several American authors seemed unable to spell Martins (spelling it Martin). I would guess that all of this has been done without any malicious intent.

Re: Women's World Freestyle Championship
As a sometimes follower of Russian Art and Literature permit me to say a few words.
In Russia, the patronymic is an official part of the name, used in all official documents, and when addressing somebody both formally and among friends. For example, in Russian, a man named Ivan with a father named Nikolay would be known as Ivan Nikolayevich.
A Russian will rarely formally address a person named Mikhail simply as 'Mikhail', as to do so would be regarded as a breach of etiquette, but rather as 'Mikhail' followed by his patronymic (i.e. 'Mikhail Nikolayevich' or 'Mikhail Sergeyevich' etc). So in Russia getting a person’s name correct is an important part of their culture.
I believe we are all prone to typos from time to time, I know I certainly am. But, with a little more care and attention to peoples names plus a few lessons from Dennis (he is an excellent teacher and his tuition fee is very modest ) this problem will, hopefully, be solved.

Alex,im appalled at the crap youve just written on here.Judging the type of man you are youve probably doctored most of the correspondence, and i wouldnt believe a word youve spoken.Anyway, ive got all the correspondence here,on both sides, and i will be sending it to the FMJD.I had a death in the family this week, and cant really be bothered with the likes of you.

Greetings Liam:liam stephens wrote: I believe we are all prone to typos from time to time, I know I certainly am.
So am I.
I try to make it a point to proofread each and every post I write.
No matter how careful I try to be, a few errors from my end still manage to slip through.
I pride myself a great deal on my writing, and I am always very grateful when somebody points out my errors to me.
Thank you, Liam.liam stephens wrote:But, with a little more care and attention to peoples names plus a few lessons from Dennis (he is an excellent teacher and his tuition fee is very modest ) this problem will, hopefully, be solved.
I also pride myself on my teaching abilities, and my fees are very modest, indeed.
However, I am sure you have noticed that I have just been personally attacked for the spelling and grammatical lessons I have already provided in one single post.
For this reason, these lessons may have to come to an end.
This is unfortunate, as this could have been a steady job for a while.
Thanks again.
Best Wishes,
Dennis Cayton

Re: Women's World Freestyle Championship
Alex has not been very respectful to Jan Mortimer with the vicious campaign of character assasination and personal attacks he has waged against her.Josh Armstrong wrote: Alex has got to be one of the most respectful players in the checkers community.
I have provided no evidence whatsoever to support your inference that I may be a "white supremacist." Please be advised that I consider this to be a personal attack against my character, and it has been reported.Josh Armstrong wrote:Personally Dennis, I find your post distasteful. Are you a white supremacist or just extremely arrogant about your grammatical abilities?
I find this to be a most extreme and unusual reaction to a little bit of grammatical and spelling instruction.Josh Armstrong wrote: Reading your post made me feel as if I were in the 1800s reading American Nativist propaganda.
Do you need to be reminded that it was Alex himself who requested that he be informed of any and all typos in his future posts?Josh Armstrong wrote: You should consider pressing the link on the top of the page for private messaging for all your future dog-whipping sessions.
To wit:
You will notice that he did not request to be advised of these typos in the private messaging venue.Alex_Moiseyev wrote:If you see any other typos in my future posts, please, let me know immediately.
However, I will be happy to do so, if that is his preference.
If you are going to ask me to cease with my corrections on a public forum, then I have a question for you:
Are you going to demand the same standard of conduct from Alex Moiseyev, who has publicly corrected the spelling of Jan Mortimer on several occasions?
Why are you singling me out for correcting the spelling of another poster, while you are giving Alex Moiseyev a free pass for the same behavior?
In that case, he should treat Jan Mortimer with the respect and integrity that she deserves.Josh Armstrong wrote:Alex is a very fine American citizen despite his lack of English abilities. He's respectful, honest, with integrity.
I think all members of our checker playing fraternity should be respectful of each other, including champions and non-champions alike.Josh Armstrong wrote:I think we should show all our champions a little more respect.

To Josh Armstrong:Josh Armstrong wrote:That e-mail was quite interesting Alex. It seems that Jan suffers from ethnocentrism. Does she not like the Turkmen people? Or is it just their religion? Maybe it's the fact that they were former territories of the Soviet Union.
I am deeply offended by this display of character assasination against Jan Mortimer.
I reported this post yesterday while choosing to remain silent.
My conscience will not allow me to remain silent any more.
I do not find your public personal attack against Jan Mortimer to be a laughing matter.Josh Armstrong wrote: I recommend everyone read the letter for a good laugh.

Re: Women's World Freestyle Championship
That is the WCDF pronouncement, but the forthcoming GA meeting could rescind that decision if they listen to the reasoned and reasonable plea made recently, supported by several members, to reinstate the match at a neutral venue. A number of readers, by no means all of them supporters of Jan had a similar outlook. It has been pointed out by many and even by members of the WCDF committee that mistakes were made on both sides.“…….. as Amangul has already retained her title.”
I believe the matter should now be left to the GA meeting in September, in the hope that they will not have hardened their hearts and recognise the old adage that not only must justice be done but also must be seen to be done.
I rest my case.
Re: Women's World Freestyle Championship
I have just read Hugh Devlins account of the goings on in the negotiations for my match with Amangul, and its the biggest whitewash of what actually happened ive ever seen in my life, making me look like a fool.Hugh is presenting this at the GA.Im appalled that the president of the WCDF could stoop so low as to twist and doctor events so efficiently.
If Im at fault, why has the WCDF not allowed an independant person to peruse all emails,on both sides. If there is nothing to hide, why not open up everything and let it be examined, rather than printing a one-sided version of what happened.?
Im not ashamed to present all my emails for examining. Jan Mortimer
