Kondlo won't be in England

Post by Alan Millhone »

Hello Everyone:

Received news today that GM Lubabalo Kondlo from Port Elizabeth , South Africa will not compete in the WQ . He was slated to attend and to represent Mind Sports South Africa. I have no other details at this time.

Extremely pity fact. Having a chance to review Lubabalo games in OH 3-moves State ty and his USA National and WQT 2007 games, I think his level is high enough to compete this year in England. I hope this is just unofrtunate financial deals, not something else.

I also heard rumors that Jack Francis lost some of his sponsors last minute but don't know much details.

Kondlo won't be in England

Hello Mr. Alex:

I am sure Lubabalo's plane ticket was purchased by sponsors and his hotel room, etc. was in place for him. I am working on getting all details (facts) on why he did not get to go.

Also a sad note if Jack Francis does not get to attend.

It means Shane McCosker will be the favourite.

Faleo and Tovagliaro are now the favorites with Jim Morrison, Shane McCosker and Richard Beckwith as close contenders.

I actually think the Americans, including my friend Chuck Freeman, will all place in the top 5. I also believe that 2 of them will place 1st and 2nd place. To be honest the level of play is so high it will be hard to believe anyone has this won before it has started so my guesses are only based on what I have seen and I have not seen everyone's play.

It is normal to say that National Champions and previous winners of this tourney are favored!

Hi Tommy:

As an average/weak Master player I have a few observations on playing GM King. You are not going to beat him playing all drawn games. One will have to research old, old lines of dormant and obscure play and find an improvement on the ending, etc. Suki knows the board for GAYP like the back of one's hand. His end-game play is execeptional. I was lucky enough to be referee for his match in Petal Vs. GM Morrison and later in Medina with GM Kondlo playing draw after draw with Suki till he lost the last game and Suki retained his title. Any opponent Suki has will have to 'step out' and get away from p.p. Yes, you also take a chance of losing, but you will never, ever beat him playing standard p.p. game after game. Suki will simply sit back and 'coast' thru the entire match. I will never be good enough to play him a match, but I am smart enough to know what I have just stated will hold water . His opponent will have to gather every game they can find that Suki has played and then carefully analyize each game and look for some 'chink' in his armor ( a daunting task ).

Yeaaa ... in order to beat Suki or any other Champion  you have to do everything at the same level, something do better and ... have luck ! Not an easy thing but everything possible.

What we learned well from history, sooner or later title always change hands

I think either Jim, Shane or Richard will be a winner of event. I agree with Michael Holmes that Anthony Bishop and Chuck Freeman will be among top 6 players. Anthony is well experienced tricky player and Chuck has a very good knowledges of published play.

Without comment...................

OL KING SUKI WAS A MERRY OL COOKIE
AND A MERRY OL COOKIE WAS HE
WHEN IT CAME TO A CROSS OR AN OL 14TH
HE WOULD GOBBLE EM UP FOR TEA

THEY MIGHT TRY A COOK, A HOOK OR A CROOK
BUT AS FAR AS I COULD SEE
HE WOULD BEAT THEM ALL, LIKE HE WAS HAVIN A BALL
AND SMILING …………… “YOU CANT BEAT ME”.!!
