3-moves WCM 2009

Post by Alex_Moiseyev »

During our phone conversation tonight, me and Dr. Richard Beckwith decided that he will make an official announcemnt tomorrow. However, I am so excited from good news which I heard, that I would like to share some of them with you now

Due to unfortunate fiasko which happened with Ladies GAYP Match and in order to prevent similar situation with 3-moves WCM 2009, several weeks ago I activated the process of finalising all match deals and specifically - buy tickets for Ron. It wasn't an easy deal to contact with Suki, however after several attempts Dr. Beckwith reached him and they agreed on arrival and departure dates.

Tonight Richard informed me that after contacting with sponsors and getting money in hands, he bought tickets at very good cheap cost. Ron should be in Medina on October 2nd (Friday night) and we'll start on Monday, October 5th, as planned and scheduled.

Due to cheap deal with tickets, this also will raise cash prize fund up to at least $3,000 from original $1,500 which we agreed earlier (I wasn't very happy with $1,500 but accepted it because no other alternative bids were on the table).

Everything in above guarantee us that long expected (more than 4 years !) my match with Ron King will take place in Medina, OH, October 5-15, referee - Steve Holliday.

Dr. Beckwith will make an official announcement tomorrow with more details.

I want to assure my fans that my preparation goes smoothly in all neccessary components: physical form, psychological form, published play study and refresh memory, cooks, visualization and calculation, practice etc.

As my opponent in match, I always consider Suki very seriously as a strong and danger, certainly not an easy opponent, but I feel comfortable with upcoming battle and hope to retain my title for another two years.

In the next 6 weeks before match, I plan to play in IN, OH and VA State tournaments.

Stay on for more news ...

There is only one way to prove pudding - eat it !

Amazing progress. The WCDF is to be congratulated on its alacrity in securing the flight tickets.
Hopefully, the practice of provision of the travelling player’s air ticket in advance is now established as the norm. I recall that a similar request made in Jan Mortimer’s case was flatly rejected.

Though I agree with Liam that better and clear procedure of setting match must be done, I disagree that buying tickets in advance by organisers is the only option.

In my 2003 match in Cookstown both players had to pay for tickets on their own. In 2005 Ron paid for his tickets, but as soon as he landed in USA, he've got all compensation money back from Alan Millhone. I also can imagine situation when sponsors want to put ALL money into cash prize and I dont't see anything wrong with this depends on how much money we are dealing with.

But number of all these situations is limited. Probably I already covered all or most of them. All these situations can be and must be define in new revise version of WCDF BY-LAWS.

Another good thing with setting 3-moves WCM 2009 was - Dr. Beckwith played two important roles and both very successful: representing sponsors and organisers & being a moderator person from WCDF between me and Ron.

But perhaps the most important thing was - me and Ron were passive enough this year and didn't have intention to escalate anything  and make Richard life harder.

Many things depend on players attitude, but hopefully new rules shall minimize this influence.

If GA will vote on creating a new Committee and voting will be successful - this Committee shall include in revise BY-LAWS much better and clear definition of process. Who and how pay for tickets is, indeed, important thing and must be covered.

But anohter important thing is - new rules shall minimize and limit players freedom to delay things and make the whole process of setting match uncertain and conditional.

Regards,

Alex

A few weeks ago I received 100 Trillion dollars from a friend. I have no need for this amount of money. I want to gift this crisp, un-circulated, authentic $100,000,000,000,000,000.00 to this WCM which the director may distribute the proceeds as he sees fit. This would be a record purse for checkers and make each participant a Trillionaire.

OK, thanks JR. Here is a Russian joke:

someone won a million dollars in lottery. Reporter from newspaper asked him:

- How you plan to spend these money ?
- Pay off my debts.
- And what about other ?
- Other can wait !

I did try to trade a clunker but the rules kept me from doing it... mind was a 6 cylinder and it must be an 8 to qualify, plus mfg stated mileage was better than 18. :(

Alex I enjoyed your joke :)

But this Zimdollar bill or Zimbabwe dollar note is real, I got it back in June ... its the world's biggest denomination bill and the largest to date Zimbabwean bill they’ve issued for circulation, but who knows? Currently the Zimbabwe dollar is officially dead, it was suspended indefinitely in April 2009. http://www.rbz.co.zw/ It was killed off in hopes of curbing record inflation of billions of % points, replacing it with US dollars, the South African rand, a couple of other currencies, and of course gold, but it continues to circulate. President Robert Mugabe who's picture was on the 1st Trillion bill still declares it their legal tender. Governor Gideon Gono, a Mugabe loyalist acknowledged printing too much extra money to fund government spending that fueled inflation. Former Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa announced in January 2009 that Zimbabweans could legally use foreign currencies alongside the Zimbabwe dollar. Current Finance Minister Tendai Biti of the long-time opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), has described the central bank as "totally discredited" and "at the core of economic decay." He has a power sharing agreement between his (MDC) and Mugabe's Zanu-PF party declares the Zimdollar obsolete back in May. You can Google and You tube this.

Right now the country is in financial chaos, their economy, and GDP has collapsed, they have divided leadership and have become one of the poorest countries in the world, and the way it looks, will continue to be. Opposition leader turned Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, who leads his Movement for Democratic Change is in coalition with Mugabe, who also would like to be President, in addition to MDC grouping of Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara.

Mugabe, who has ruled Zimbabwe since its independence from Britain in 1980, with a once-vibrant economy as agriculture being 40% of their export (grain), industrial, garment factories, manufacturing, and mining just behind.

BTY Gideon Gono is still the reserve bank governor at Zimbabwe's Central Bank, known as “Farther Christmas” and “Mr Inflation.” He dishes it out to individuals within the party, to Mugabe and his family and political friends. The wealthy and powerful vice-president of Zimbabwe, Joyce Mujuru, with her husband Solomon have privileged access to Central Bank. They prospered as the rest of the country suffers. Despite EU & UN sanctions against Zimbabwe being in place since 2002, and extended this year, Mrs Mujuru has allegedly been trying to fund a multi-million gold deal in Europe, which amounted to transferring wealth out of Zimbabwe. This deal was stopped because of the attention the national news media exposed the parties involved. This country has been a rat ship sinking for 6 years. Within the DRC there are huge mining exploits which are being made by Solomon Mujuru and Joyce Mujuru. Other elites have control of the Marange diamond fields of Zimbabwe because of unclear title to them, their use of forced labor, human rights abuses (torture, beatings, rape, & sexual exploitation), illegal mining & smuggling in the fields, corrupt Principal Buyers and Smuggling routes & Police smuggling syndicates, all designed to strip wealth from the Zimbabwe people and accumulate billions for the elite. The small elite group of the richest and most powerful people in Zimbabwe who are top level politicians connected to Mugabe’s Zanu-PF party live in lavish mansions, and are hastily transferring their wealth by selling gold & diamonds in Europe through brokers /commodities trader so they can transport it from Nairobi to Zurich. I suppose dirty politicians are the same all over the world. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7907278.stm

Mugabe was warned by Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, the country’s central bank that his regime on land reform wouldn’t work. They predicted that going forward with farmland seizures would result in a pullout of foreign investment, defaults on farm bank loans, and a massive decline in agricultural production. Mugabe began seizure of white-owned commercial farms back in 2000 and headlong using mainly groups of young, politically motivated thugs. These armed AK-47 thugs attacked and raided the farmers who had no police protection, acted on behalf of the future "beneficiaries" of farm expropriations—mostly members of President Robert Mugabe's ZANU-PF party. Once the owners and their senior staff had been evicted, the new "owners" occupied the land and took advantage of the assets, including crops and livestock. This continued until 2003, by then all 4,500+ commercial farms were gone which soon killed the country’s agricultural economy and 5 million Zimbabweans skilled and semi-skilled labors left the country to find jobs in neighboring SA, and other border countries. Supposedly the official goal was to divide the farms into hundreds of thousands of small plots for traditional communal black farmers. In reality, most land ended up in the hands of Mugabe’s political supporters and government officials, who had little interest or knowledge of farming. Mugabe blames Western conspiracies, racism, and continuous years of drought. When in fact the commercial farms had dams, water delivery systems, and vast tracts of well-irrigated land, essentially drought proof. He continues to beg United Nations and World Bank for foreign aid and gets it. They do need help but they also need a new President. http://www.cato.org/zimbabwe

Zimbabwe is the first country in the 21st century to hyperinflate. Zimbabwe failed to break Hungary’s 1946 world record for hyperinflation. That said, Zimbabwe did race past Yugoslavia in October 2008. In consequence, Zimbabwe can now lay claim to second place in the world hyperinflation record books, and possibly break the record if Mugabe isn’t removed.

Should we be taking notes? Think about this! Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke (approved by both parties) flooded US economy when teetering on depression with trillions of dollars (stimulus/bailouts). Now Fed must shrink our balance sheet over the next 5 or 6 years. Soak up these bucks too fast and we stall back into the financial crisis Obama inherited, wait too long or continue printing money and risk crippling inflation. The big question is when will the government liquidate their debt-buying rescue programs? They need to unload $1.2 trillion in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac mortgage-backed securities without sending mortgage rates sky high. They also need to dump $1.5 trillion in Treasury debt, without sending interest rates to Carter’s 21%. This could be more complicated than checkers! I do have faith in Bernanke, who’s magic has worked so far!

Dear JR,

I am also a multiple billionaire since I was 6 when my granddad passed some old German Reichsmark notes to me from the 1920's.
In that days money was worth less then the paper it was printed on in Germany.
They are now a valuable collectors item, but I won't give them away as they are memories of my Granddad.

100 Trillion Dollars would be a nice purse unless one realizes it is not US-Dollars.
But if you donate this to the WC fund, they might use it in the wall paper adds as the highest stake ever in any sport.
Provided all this zeros fit on one page.

Think about that Alex!

1. Dr. Beckwith spoke recently with Ron King over the phone and everything regarding Ron arrival
was confirmed again, including meeting him in airport.

2. The final cash price bid ended up (as of today) with $4,500.00. ACF finally agreed to donate
$1,500.00 for the world title match on USA territory where one (at least) player is USA citrizen.

3. Referee, Steve Holliday received from Dr. Beckwith most recent updates of WCDF BY-LAWS,
rules, regulations, acts and Games Rules.

4. Ron arrives late Friday, I'll be there Sunday afternoon. Opening ceremony will be on Monday
at 9:00 AM

I hope it will be a great match with interesting games. Steve, me or both (ha-ha) will post here
updates every day.

Hi, William !

As far as I know, in Russia and Netherland electronic board is worthy of $500. Anything else is just software which is available around. Another option - use web camera, but someone should operate it or locate permanently close to board. Professional big camera-TV may cost several thousand dollars and need operator involvement. In Medina more likely there will be some days when only me, Ron and Steve will be in playing room.

Medina bid is a classic small but solid bid which guarantee us that match secured.

Everything is possible, agree. It's up to organisers. I was passive enough during negotiations this year and didn't required any beauties. My goal was simple - make organisers life easy and do not create much complications in order to secure match.

In the meantime, me and Dr. Beckwith finished working on provisional contract and submitted it for WCDF review and preliminary approval. Ron also can make some adjustments "last second". After agreed by all patires, contract will be signed at opening ceremony by me, Ron, Steve and Richard (WCDF Vice President).

Steve Holliday already released money from bank and now is taken care of equipment. All rooms are already booked from Oct 5 thru 15.

I also asked Rich to think about possibility take Ron to local Church on rest day (Saturday) if Ron desires (I think he will). My God is always with me inside and I don't need extra channel.

Yeaaa ... at least one match will be played this year ... grrr Cross fingers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alex

Orchestra, music !!!

It is 6:00 PM here in Columbus and Ron plane is in the air.

It is my pleasure to share with you a short but historical piece of email, which I received from Dr. Beckwith few minutes ago ...

Ron's flights seem to be running nearly on time today. I will pick him up at airport in a couple hours. Hopefully he remembered to get on plane in Barbados this morning. I did talk to him a couple days ago, and he was aware that today was his travel day.

I will certainly include this quote into my match book or whenever I will annotate games from this match

Life like zebra - black line-white line-black line-white line etc.

Bad news (for me) - Ron didn't arrive yesterday and my chances to get prize money are in question.
Good news (for me) - it seems like he is still arriving today.

Bad news (for Ron) - he will have one rest day less.
Good news (for Ron) - having less travel days Ron needs one shirt, socks and underwear less.

Bad news (for Richard) - Ron didn't inform him about changing dates and Richard went to airport for nothing.
Good news (for Richard) - getting more experience to deal with Ron.

My Brother is up from Florida and is in Cleveland today for Brown's game. I drive to Columbus tomorrow to have lunch with Brother Ken at our favorite restaurant :-) Ken is 12 years my junior, ACF Member , but not too active as player. He will depart for Columbus Airport after our lunch and I will head North for Medina to see day # 2 of WCM and may stay thru Wednesday . One can learn by watching and 'rubbing shoulders' with Mr. Alex and " The General " as GM Lubabalo Kondlo called Suki last year at their GAYP Match.

Greetings from not very sunny Medina ! It is a bit cold here but no rain and things look exciting before upcoming match - long awaited since 2005 :D

I met Suki in the lobby and he told me that he missed two flights (!!!) - one on Friday and one on Saturday. WOW
