Louis Cowie received a letter last week from Tony Kozenski's daughter Barbara, saying that Tony was hospitalized this past September and that he died on October 24th 2009.
Below is a picture of Tony (standing) and his good friend Louis Cowie seated on the right.
I've been searching for his obituary but haven't found it. I'll called his daughter tomorrow and post more later.

CHECKERS: The Mind Sport of Kings and Ordinary Men.
Nothing to say ... Tony was my friend in mind, first (and last) coach in checkers, man from whom I learned everything. Fantastically sadden news. After Tony leaved us, It will be a permanent hole in my sole and heart. He was a MAN.
Tony, if you read this - I wish you best in your new life ...
So sorry to hear of this.....PA loses it's most prominent player.
Here is an image from a PA newspaper article which Tony sent to Earl Hangen for use in Earl's "Wood's Ladder Report" March 2004.
My greatest sympathy goes out to the family of Tony.Tony was also a good friend to me in my early checker days.I had the utmost respect for him,a fine man, regards Jan
I was so sorry to hear of Tony's death. He was a good friend to me. When I had the Missouri Newsletter, he would help me in figuring out what problems to submit. When I would make a boo-boo, he was always reassuring, and would tell me what a good job I was doing. I met him in person only one time, in Medina, OH in 2006. I'm so glad I did get to meet him.
