April ACFB # 344

Post by Alan Millhone »

Hello ACF Members:

Before each issue goes into print I go to Sir Speedy and 'proof' the bulletin to be printed. I did so as usual for this award winning issue and found everything in order.

My own issue arrived today and found it to be without the three punched holes. Another ACF Member has reported the same thing to me this evening. I get a few extras each issue and those were punched. I also get all outside of USA bulletins, which I affix postage and mail each issue. Sir Speedy has a 'bulk' rate for the ACF but not available for any issues sent outside of the USA.

I dealt for a long time with Shane at Sir Speedy and recently learned he is no longer with them.

All the ACF can do is apologize for holes not being punched in this issue.

I trust the content of this and every issue makes up for any shortcomings as far as printing errors that might surface on occasion.

If you are not an ACF Member............... $25.00 will get you 6 superb issues per year with your paid membership. $35.00 Canada and $40.00 rest of the world. Consider joining and supporting a game we all love.

Sincerely:
Alan Millhone, President

You should consider raising the ACF membership price by 5 to 10 dollars.
Agree, support and voted YES back to 2003 !I beleive $35 is a very reasonable increase and ACF will not lose with this membership fee upgrade any single member in good standing.

Alan and all,

At only twenty-five bucks ($25.00), ACF membership is a huge bargain...it is also a privilege to be a member.

No holes in the printed Bulletin?? Certainly no apology necessary. At any office supply store, one can buy for three or four bucks (or maybe even less...) a nifty hole punch. Using this tool, you can, in about thirty seconds, punch all the holes you will ever need in the spine of your Bulletin. Just to make sure I was not blowing smoke, I tried this procedure not ten minutes ago using my very own hole punch and ACF Bulletin #343...of course, I now have six extra holes in the Bulletin but, as I said, it was about thirty seconds work to both measure the spacing and punch the holes.

My hole punch, by the way, is a single-hole model made by McGill. A very, very high-tech tool (as I'm sure you all realize).

Even "older members who are not fans of technology" (to quote an email about the printed Bulletin that recently appeared in the Forum) ought to be able to handle this. After all, I'm an "older member" and I'm not a real "fan of technology" ( a very strange choice of words in both cases by the email's author, I thought) and I was able to do it with no problem.

I agree with all the posts on cost - value.

A few years back I made a suggestion that I still feel is worthwhile.

Every ACF sanctioned and tournament could add $5.00 to each entry fee that would go to the ACF.

When I travel to a tournament, I plan on it costing me some dollars. Five more on the entry fee would be unnoticed.

However, I feel the ACF could do more to help organize tournaments throughout the USA also. So $10.00 would be ok with me too if the end result would be better promoted checkers.

I doubt any tournament player would protest an additional 5 or 10 for entry in a tournament.

Proposals ..

ACF can allow all members still pay $25 for 2011 if they do it by December 31, 2010. Any annual membership fee which paid after this date, shall be $35. If this option will be taken - it must be well advretise in ACFB for June, August, October, December and at National in Springfield.

Little bit work for Kim  during transition period.
