Observations from your ACF President

Hello forum users:

I would like to see 'carry overs' from the BBS not be posted and discussed on our ACF Forum. The forum is not the place to 'grind axes'. I have read the BBS postings of late and find them terrible to say the very least. The ACF Forum is for the discussion of Draughts/Checkers, published play,problems,etc. and of course our TRIVIA section that is full of facts and history on our game and read and enjoyed by everyone. Unfit postings will be moved or removed from the forum. We have had some porno sites which will be removed as they are detected. Also there is no need for one person to register under several other names. Remember I have the ability to see everyone's ip address and will act accordingly if needed. I told everyone in the beginning what to expect at the ACF Forum. It is intended to be informative and fun for everyone. I don't like 'mean' postings and prefer they not be on the forum. I am sorry if you don't like these guidelines (rules), but that is the way it will be........................

It is possible to allow only one signup per IP address. I am working on this for a signup form on my site. It is possible someone has already done this work for phpbb such that a guide could be followed to implement it on this installation of phpbb -- just something for you Jason if you are interested in the research of that.

I agree with Mr. Millhone on two improtant things he mentioned: horrible storm on BBS in the past few days, and limiting registration. The last action will not resolve completely the issue, because many people have an access to diffenet PC's (at home, work, friends houses, etc), however this may help.

In my personal, strong opinion - usage of more than one, several id's , in forum - just simple splitting of personality, which is in other words means - shysophrenia. Did I spell this word correctly ?

I never question your spelling nor anyone else's for that matter:-)

However I feel 'one person--- one name' on our forum. No need to be deceptive on the ACF Forum, right? Just be yourself so everyone can see who posts what It is no secret that I have never liked anon. postings.

Re-registration is an option if needed...............................

One signup per ip will not resolve anything as far as i'm concerned. Several ISP's will switch ip addresses at random. Many dialup services will most likely get you a new ip each time you log on (though not necassarily). I can get a new ip from my cable ISP simply by resetting the cable modem. Also just like Alex said, people will have a new ip at work or at a lab or something like that.
Forcing one signup per ip also disables people who work together or people who are using a public internet connection or multiple members of a family using the same computer to sign up, as only one person would be able to.

I agree that it does not resolve the issue.

I don't know how that family member idea could be considered as proper counter-act though hehe

Off-topic:
As far as the future login sys for my site, I was just going to check subnet. Plans are to only allow one subnet per login though. I was maybe going to go with idea of some of the dyndns applications where a user updates and verifies an IP change via email. I know it's a little hairy; still thinking about it.

My fellow ACF members,

the problem can be resolve, when during "re-registration", you adjust "license agreement code" manually, and include here paragraphs about prohibiting usage multiply ID's by the same user.

Then people, who clicks on "DISAGREE" bottom will not be register. This is simple. People who agree with this code and register, can be banned by violating this code.

I know, I know ... everything you want to tell me, my smart reader, but this is the way it works on many other forums, sideas and licences agreements in Internet.

Matthew, on Russian checkers forum there is "extended list of smiles" which muuuuuch bigger, than basic one. Yes, there are smiles like you posted, and actually - much more informative.

I already proposed this to Jason - all we need to do: get extended file with smiles (somewhere in Internet) and link it to ACF forum.

They are funny, but I prefer to have at max 20 of them available. It gets too confusing and more difficult to read the text IMO.

I'm sorry to be negative but any attempt to check user login based on IP will fail. Everytime my router reconnects to my provider I will get a new email address! I don't see any return of the invested time in such measures.

Alex, ""schizophrenia and "split personality" are two entirely different mental illnesses. Although "schizophrenia" means "split mind" it is a misnomer for that illness.
As a person who has worked with sufferers of these illnesses I think I am more than qualified to write on this subject. I shall, however, refrain from writing any lengthy piece on the matter.
Suffice it to say that your message concerning "schizophrenia" should be deleted forthwith.

I agree with Hans about the IP based rules. They are more counterproductive than beneficial.

I had attemtped to make 2 different points in my above post.
1. There are ways around IP detection
2. There are disadvantages to IP forcing (hence why the family situation was listed)
