Fifth round is almost over. I played another couple draws with Ron, Larry Keen won round over Joe Schwartz and Richard Hallet still playing (and pushing) Jim Morrison in the last round game. After 5 rounds I have 16 points, Ron King, Larry Keen and Richard Beckwith have 14. Joe Schwartz and Anthony Bishop have 12 and either Richard Hallet (if wins) or Jim Morrison (if draw) also will have 12 points.

Everything is ahead. More likely in the next round I should play with Richard Beckwith and Ron King will play with Larry Keen. Interesting intrigue scenario ...

Too hot in Springfield !!! The good thing is that tomorrow this marathon will be over.

Back home from Springfield.

It is 4 AM here. Nice tournament, nice games, nice people. I am very tired and very happy. Great event in memory of great Richard Fortman. Many thanks to everyone who was involved in setting and running this National. It was my 4th 3-moves National which I won but every time it's special. I will always remember it.

My play wasn't very fresh and bright in Springfield but perhaps I made less mistakes than others.

At the end looking at final standing table we see on top still the same names: Moiseyev, King, Hallett, Keen, Morrison. This probably means two things:

1) It's not easy to master the game, it take alot of time and efforts

2) Not too many new players on horizon

Even the ones we have in some cases have stopped playing which is even more disturbing, also im wondering how long checkers will last in England & Scotland as there seems to be a large decline in recent years,the Irish front seems to be thriving strangely enough, I wonder what we are doing different?

Congratulations to Alex Moiseyev for winning the title and confirming his status as the current number one player.

Also congratulations to Earl Harvell for winning the minors,Teal Stanley for winning the majors ( he is master now. no doubt) and last, but not least to Kim Willis, who won the Ladies title.

Also Ron King and Richard Hallett deserve a special mention, though they are probably not satiesfied with a result that 99,99 percent of all checker players would regard as a personal triumph.
That alone shows how good they are.

The biggest CONGRATULATIONS however go to John Acker for a very good presentation that sets high marks for any other event, and is a big step forward in promoting checkers.
