GAYP 2011

Post by waynegober »

Hello everyone,

I noticed John had mentioned the possible promotion of the next GAYP national in OKC.
This is of course at this time in the talking stage and no bid has been considered or offered.
Oklahoma City has had some majors changes in the last few years and has something to offer as a tournament site.
My question to you all is distance from most players. Is it too far for you to come to OKC for a tournament?
Would a bigger prize fund make a difference. Would free rooms for the week make a difference? I have some ideas, but do not want to even start if it is too far for most to come. There is an International Airport here ect. The only other thing that is a must (John Acker must agree to be the video and internet correspondent for this tournament :) ) Also, congratulations to Alex, Teal and Nick and Earl.

Thanks,
Wayne

Wayne, I like to visit new places - my way to learn America

There is also a chance I can drive here, maybe looking for pool. I just checked Mapquest - only miserable (ha-ha) 922 miles, 14.5 hours from my house. Not as much and is completely acceptable.

Highly acceptable for me and I will assist Wayne with as much as possible. I can also get sponsorship in Oklahoma to help the prize fund out a bit. Not sure how much exactly, but both my grandparents own businesses there and stated they would help.

Thanks for the positive input guys. Can the ACF take contributions and furnish documentation so the donation can be written off?

Thanks,

Hello, Wayne !

remember: donation is donation and bid is bid !

I can play simulteniously 150-200 games for free in order to raise fund, if you organise event. Take $20 from each participant and it's all yours

Wayne,

I appreciate your interest at considering making a National tournament bid. These efforts are very much needed on an annual basis. I would likely fly in for such an event, coming from far-away Ohio. At John Acker's request rearlier this year, I put together a "bidder's checklist" of things to consider, if anyone wants me to e-mail this to them (write me at beckwith24@msn.com). All 2011 bids are due to Alan at the end of this year.

The first entry on the ACF Store Donations page is for donations to the National Tournament -- I will acknowledge all donations by e-mail and also verify with the donor which National tournament the donor wants it applied to (2011, or 2010 to get select games). Donations can also be mailed to Kim or Alan.

Thanks Dr. Beckwith,

I have emailed for the packet.

Alex,

I only have 4 sets of checkers that are red and white. We might have to play with cheap wal-mart sets. I most definately am interested in you playing and promoting a chance at the World Champ. Maybe a day before the tournament ? Could get a lot of news coverage for that I think. Of course many ACF members arrive a day early for the tournaments and we would no doubt have some of them want to chip in and play.

Thanks,
Wayne

My mother has a friend that is a news anchor on fox news...I could talk to them early about airing Alex's exhibition if it takes place also. That might help too.

We also may set some prices:

people who drew the game get money back, and people who wins game against me get money back + free ACF annual membership + free copy of Sixth.

Wayne, you need some sort of aggresive advrtisement in local media. 200 people is not a huge number and we can play also outside of door - on stadimum or park.

Alex,

I agree that 200 is not a large number with proper advertising. Funny that you mention money and ACF membership and Sixth ect. I have been thinking along those lines too. Just the Oklahoma Chess community could fill this 200 people. I might attack there pride ( chess is so superior :) they should just come and show how easy it is to beat Worlds Champion at checkers, hehe)

Anyhow, thinking it all over still
