Very true, Tommy, but as for the players, I can understand that in a tournament there are "little things" that can cause many troubles, so plz don't judge too hard.
You might be the next to be spoilt by a camera, noises, spectators, the sunlight, grunting (actually your oppont has a bad cough) etc.
Not to forget that you might be rightly irritated by your own bad play, as I am most of the times.
So I, having been a referee myself, prefer to handle the complaints of the players like a confessional secret.
It is a matter between the parties and the referee who has the hard task to decide, but not a public affair.
Sometimes a complaint is made rightly, and sometimes (quite) wrongly, but each complaint has to be taken seriously.
I am confident that any referee with expirience will handle complaints seriously, but with discretion.
And let's leave it that way, Tommy.

As for leaving the playing area, I don't know if the referee was informed and allowed that.
In general, it should be prohibited, and the offender should recieve a warning.
If he had taken advice (from another player, books, a PC) during that "expedition" (s)he may also be declared to lose the game and banned from the tournament.
If it was not on purpose, but say, to take some fresh air, or to take some medication from the hotel room, a warning should do.

Regarding the QT:
Thx Hugh and Tommy for delivering details.
We all appreciate that.
So Ron King on the surge again, but only one day so far, and others, like Borghetti and Bashim Durdyev close to him, and still a few favorites with good chances.
On the 1st day actually, you don't win a tournament, but you can lose it.
Baghtiyar Durdyev and his sister Amangul might have been the first to learn this bitter lesson.
As for the Women:
How many rounds do they play? Is it double round robin?
Looks like the 3rd round between Jan Mortimer and Hugmangul Toyeva might be crucial.
24 looks like a good turnout, only Beijing with free accomodation and meals had more players.
Who is missing from the final nominations?
I heard that the two Welsh players are out, but there must be more, ppl. Jack Francis and Wilma Branch (women) and Chuck Freemann.
Good luck everybody, have a nice time, and man, I now really wish I could have made it.
