Good evening friends

I don't believe that enough has been said about the convincing 2nd place " victory" of John McElhone!!!! In the Irish.

This guy deserves a round of applause from the entire checker playing community!!

I confirm that this 2nd place in front of many GM's and IM's was not luck , but the fruit of intense study . john has not been playing for very long , but his fantastic result does not reflect this!!

So come on guys let's hear it for John's VICTORY , and put our hands together for a definite future Irish champ (AT LEAST!!)

After Round 4:
Overall: King 12pts, Borghetti & Tovagliar 11pts, Mc Cosker, Owens, Bagityar D, Amangul D, Holmes & Webster all on 10pts. : King and Borghetti played 2 draws today. This is now the half way point and I think its fair to state that it is still wide open.

Women: Mortimer 8pts, Hurmagul 5pts, Willis 3pts, but Mortimer has played an extra round over Hurmagul. Jan beat Kim 3-1 again today.

Youth.: With two entries this is a match between Maksat Durdyev and Gochakov Gochmyrat both from Turkmenistan with the Maksat winning 13-3pts and even at this half way point looks certain to become the world youth champion 2010.

Aye your getting on a bit now Billy........sippin too mucho beer?

Anyway i see Hugh has the results posted and its a close field overall...........Apparently Ron won the 1st and Missed a win in the 2nd with Borgetti, then going into a loss himself!!!!!!!!!!!finishing up a game each,so King missed splitting the field there...hmmmm could cost him at worst at best keep the field tight.

So Yes first day had a blunder with Jan I had a win. Then 2nd game drew. When afternoon 2nd rd came up. I had toplay Toyeva from Turkmanistan. I drew her first game. And she had a child like fit and was very mad. Left room. I went to toilet. And she went to lobby. I was in lobby also. Hoja asked how game went, I told him draw. She got up then went up elevator to her room. I went right to playing room to report it. Mr Graham was out in hall. I told him, he then said he would have to talk to Jim about it. And then said "oh just play ur best". I was so mad then. I sat and waited for her return. When she did return she played a whole different game.

Today I asked what action was being taken. No result. Its like who really cares. I asked again nothing. I was so upset this did hurt my game. I think she shud have had to forfeit period.

Totally unfair. (Who cares we just women) Right!!!!! But I played this 12-16,21-17.9-14, right on pp.
This cud have made the womens scoring much different.

Kim

I sympathise with your situation. However we see today from your example ( as has been witnessed in the past in many other sports) , that the level of refereeing is definately INFERIOR to the expectancy of the players .What happened today is against the laws stated by Hugh in another post ,, the guys who are supposed to be keeping order , don't even know a quarter of the rules ( it's perhaps not their fault as there are so many of them) , however some sort of differed penalty should be imposed , BUT at the moment put all of your energy into the game Kim... go for the kill in all games as if your life depended upon that result , once the day s play is over KICK UP HELL about the amaturish refreeing as this is inadmissable!!!!
If they don't know the rules then they get out ... this is not just a game ... this is for real and we have no time to waste with clowns!!

Maybe bedrooms of the Turkwhatever people ara part of the designated area, I bet my life that if you had done that you would be out of competition now, they have a kind of power!! it seems people is afraid of them!

May I ask in which respect the rule was violated?

The first game was over. The 2nd game had not begun.
So during the game, both players did not leave the playing area.

After it, both players left the area, one for the lobby, the other for her room.
Rule 4.6 tells us that players after their games are spectators.

Of course, any spectator is allowed to walk out.

In any way, even if the rule wouldn't have allowed to leave after the first games was over, both players apparently did so.
To punish only one of them seems not right to me.

Ingo, you interpretation of rule is incorrect. Each player must be under observation between 1st and 2nd game. This rule appply to ROUND, 2 games, not 1st game when ROUND is still in progress.

If you have a chance to look at opening before 2nd game started - you have a great advantage.

Referee didn't act professionally in this situation. If i were in Kim shoes, I would submit a formal written protest RIGHT NOW and DO NOT start next round until case review.

All after all - in my eyes event success had been ruined by this ctastrophic accident.

Regards,

Alex
