What do you like about checkers?: .....

ACF Elections 2011.

Post by Alex_Moiseyev »

I am unaware of Richard Beckwith intention to serve next term as ACF Player Rep or not. Richard used to be an excellent candidate for this position for many years. Maybe he clarify his situation and willingness here. I have a potentinal nominee for this position, if Richard plans to step aside. However, if he wants to continue, I don't see any better choice.
I am playing checkers, not chess.

Hello Mr. Alex:

With the movie KING ME ,etc. I think Dr. B will seek one more term as will Kim Willis and myself. I will let Dr. Beckwith clarify on my remarks.

Sincerely:

Yes, I’ve been up and down on this decision on whether to run again for Player Rep, and am still seeking input. My concern is that I already have a full plate in mind for 2011 with ACF Store, checker book projects, trustee duties, ICHF contributing editor, WCDF V. P. term, and possibly more things in the works. This leaves little time left for promoting the game in other new areas. One uncertainty for now is where 2011 major events (US GAYP National, Qualifier, World Title Matches) will go, and whether or not I will have role as player or organizer. An additional unknown is what impact the King Me movie will have for checkers, and what inquiries may result. I do have an obvious supporting role in film, as does Alan.

Whether I run again or not, I certainly welcome and take no offense in anyone wishing to put name on ballot for Player Rep, or any other position. More choices are good for the membership (especially if someone feels they have a better platform), and I know Alan feels the same way. In Player’s Rep situation, voters may need to decide whether they like status quo with myself (given that I’m feeling some burnout) or whether to take chance on someone new who might bring in fresh ideas. Exec voting rights are also at stake here.

On a related topic, there are certainly other needs to fill within ACF. Kim is currently roles roles of two Exec positions plus directing youth initiatives. We also have volunteer needs for financial & legal adviser, GAYP Club organizer, ACF internet site supporting help, etc.
