What do you like about checkers?: I enjoy learning more and more as i go. despite its alleged simplicity the game is incredibly complex and rewarding.

Maybe we should all quit some bad habit now that the new year is approaching, not just Alex.

:)

Just a suggestion.

Just a suggestion.

My suggestion: to quit the habit of trying to quit bad habits each December/January.

We are getting close to finalizing things. As of today it appears like we have two options and have to make a right choice. I personally don't like so-called "FID proposals" - it goes against my principals and Anglo-American Checkers traditions.

The final word is on the way. I think we should have match contract ready, reviewed and approved by all parties by the end of year.

are we mere "pawns" (sorry to use chess terminology on a checkers forum) allowed to know which are the 2 associations that applied to host the match? the deadline was the 1st of december. Either way we don't have a say but i would like to know about the bidding choices.

Danny, here is some history of bids in the nearest past for 3-moves world matches:

1) In 2005 Anderson bid was finalised and selected by WCDF in the beginning of 2005 (somewhere February) and match was played at the end of May, 2005.

2) In 2007 Barbados and Medina bids were finalized in July 2007. Barbados bid was selected by WCDF and match scheduled to start October 1, but was called off due to financial failure of bidder.

3) In 2009 Medina bid was finalized somewhere in April 2009, selected by WCDF and match was scheduled and played in October, 2009.

As you see - in all 3 cases deadline - December 1st, was never met. But usually around this time all parties shows intention (or keep neutral) to make a bid and usually WCDF extend dates to allow bidders to finalize bid.

This year we have significant progress and hopefully the whole process of setting bid will be ended by the end of year and we know location, venue, bid, dates, financial conditions etc

This is strictly internal process and there is no needs and place for publicity during the process which also breaks anonimity of conditions and generate conflict of interests. Remember - this is some sort of tender where each bidder wants to win a recognition and any leaking information maybe used in advance of one side.

I am in close conact with Miki, keep my hands on this and can assure you - everything under control. Whatever will be selected - will be done in the best interest of both players and WCDF.

Tommy, everybody on this forum knows that I am not a selfish person and always thin king about our small European brothers and help them to grow. All day and night I also thinking how to promote checkers and raise respect to the title I owe. I don't like the way FID doing business - they don't have enough experiene for such calibre of event and don't have enough respect.

As of today (things still could be change) I don't see any alternative to USA bid. WCDF should make a right choice.

As I said earlier - all options are on table and nothing yet rejected or finally decided. Stay on for more news.

BTW. Miki is a very nice boy and he is an excellent addition to our durdome. If he decides to quit FID and stay with WCDF - he has my full support.

Thanx for the info, Alex.....keep us posted !!
To Danny Alvarez.....yes, a World 3-Move Title match is like a World Heavyweight Championship Boxing match....alot goes on in the scheduling and promotion, and you cannot be sure the match will even take place until the two fighters are IN THE RING !!!

Jay H

BTW, Alex....would you mind clarifying who Miki is...????

Hmmm ... Tommy is always unhappy with something and not 100% satisfy with anything (even if I say 2x2=5 - he will argue), how we can handle this ?!
