Re: SUPERVISION OF MAJOR TOURNAMENTS

Post by Ingo_Zachos »

I think we are now deviating from the subject.

In my mind Jan is right that a rule to cut the rest between two games of the same 3-move ballot to 5 minutes is the right approach.
I don't think that rules makes sense in GAYP.

As I pointed out, that is not part of the rules yet.

I will make a proposal to the next GA to introduce that rule.
Supervision on the doors is more a security measure, but in principle the refree can always make inspections if he suspects a possible cheat like examine the rest rooms, bags etc.

Tommy what do you mean by this statement?
I suppose the same will apply to our game nothing will be done bc/ "it was only a Kim" so lets wait till it happens to an IMPORTANT player in a BIG IMPORTANT TY till we do something same as FIFA did.
Am I not an important player as well?
All I have to say if it would have happened to a master player it would have been handled differently I am sure.

Tommy,

You must demand further investigation and more stringent guidelines. I just finished reviewing the crosstables at wcdf for the womens 6 round, round robin tournament and some amazing things just popped into my head !!

The contraversy was centered between games 1 and 2 in the 5th round. Jan already possessed 8 points , Toyeva had 5 points and Kim had 3 points. One game played without incident (is this correct?) So, at midpoint of the round Jan still had 8 points, Kim still had 3 but our alleged cheater Toyeva now had increased to a total of 7 points !! Now stay with me here........

Here is where the plot thickens and most folks with more brain cells could lose the train of thought. Poor Toyeva in her excitement of being within one point of the leader in her elation goes out of the playing room and who knows where else.... Eagle eye Kim sees this but knowing she just finished last in this event regardless of the outcome of game two of the round (Kim has bye next round worth 0 points) because both players are out of range, decides to throw the last game to Toyeva so that Jan will have to win the last round to win the tournament. This allows Toyeva to merely draw two games for the victory !!!! Kim has a win, win situation because this contraversy may cover the fact that she was in last place regardless. If Jan only drew the last two games she too would be a victim and the whole nine yards could be layed off on poor Toyeva (little cheater that she is) and she would never be the wiser. It was a beautifully devised, sinister plot that no one noticed until the Old Okie investigated. If Kim had been awarded all 4 points for the round, she would still have been 1 point behind Jan.

We are definately going to need full body scans and pat downs of every player between rounds. These cheaters have got to be caught.

I do not believe Jan, Kim or Toyeva are cheaters. The above was written to display the ridiculous nature of these accusations. I left out the tournament directors but can re-write to show they were mere pawns and the true victims.

If we are gonna be silly, let' s get silly,

Wayne

P.S. common sense is highly overated

cheating happens and its usually outside of ideas like a players going to the bathroom
lets make more rules because we arent pathetic enough
i had a player do something odd against me....so i manned up and won both sides
put up or shut up
if them looking up two moves on a break is gonna beat you...you have lost already
also....this is a game its important to us and serious....but if i despise you so much
that i know you are going to cheat me....i dont want to play you...just inform me you have plans of wasting my time.....open to all

secuity lol...enough said

Patrick, I can understand not wanting to play someone that cheats. But just say you dont know someone will try to cheat you its not like a red flag going up from the start. And no dissrespect by this comment but not everyone is as good as you to get cheated and still win. One thing I was a little taken off guard by was my first tournament which there was no refs watching over games to make sure its always fair play. And from ACF players that made comments on here some of their stories was really wild about unfair play. And nothing can be done about anything that goes on without a witness. I can not remember his last name I tried to look it up but he deleted his account. Nick was telling me his opponent moved and took it back. And sure he called a ref over but it became a situation of his word verse his opponents and it cost Nick a win. Which ended a very short tournament career. And ended his ACF membership. Which could of all been avoided if the tournament he attended was organized and more supervised. So its not a bad idea at all certainly it dont hurt. Im not talking keeping everyone in a locked room im just talking fair play while in the game itself. Billy

Cheat me once: shame on you!
Cheat me twice: shame on me!
Here is a way to cheat that has happened more than once in important play using a timekeeper:
When you have decided on your move, note whether your opponent's eyes have strayed from the board. If so, make your move quietly and then pretend to be in deep thought until your opponent's time runs out.
I point this out, not as an advocate of the practice, but as a victim.

So why is all this stuff allowed to happen? If there was adequate supervision it wouldnt. And you can laugh and snigger about it,but as ive said before it puts the game in disrepute. Not only that,it costs money to travel and play,so the cost of a tournament can be all for nothing. because even if you arent cheated at the tournie, and the next person is,it affects the outcome of the tournament,so you are affected in placings as well! Are we such a weak-kneed society now that when this happens, everyone pretends not to notice, and there are no repercussions. Its just whispered about, and we know its happening,BUT NOONE DOES NOTHING!

So, Bill ... you didn't pay enough attention to the game ? This is violation of rules, but minor violation.

I don't think it was a cheating on your end, you just didn't have enough experience. And of course nothing was wrong or unfair in your opponent behavior.
