Men, Women and Youth divisions
I propose the elimination of the so called "women's division" in checkers.
1. It is sexist (really it is saying that women can't compete with the men)
2. The women can play in both divisions. Why is this? Can I enter the next women's qualifier (I told you it was sexist).
3. There are not enough women playing for all the trouble it causes.
Youth division is another matter and should remain.
No more Men's division but just a Peoples division in checkers !!!!!
My 2 cents worth

Re: Men, Women and Youth divisions
If ratings were kept up well, I might could agree on ratings assigned divisions. However with low numbers at all tournaments, one division might not be bad idea. That way everyone can drift to where they fit in final standings and a lot of contraversy solved. I'm a strong believer that the best players find a way to finish toward top, so if you have 20 players a true swiss with repairing would be just fine Imnsho.

While I am at it. Why do we give 3 points for a bye after the first round? I propose 3 points for 1st two rounds, then drop to 2 points for a bye in next 3 rounds. Last two rounds a bye only deserves 1 point at most. Stop the insanity of poor play being rewarded.

I also propose to use clocks and record games.
I am playing checkers, not chess.

Players that do not know the board numbers could use a small card with a numbered board printed on it.
Make this mandatory and I will 2nd this proposal.I also propose to use clocks and record games.

Wayne at the Al.tourney I suggested to Frank Davis to handle the bye like the Texas tourneys use to do.
They allowed the first bye to pay 3 points, all thereafter payed 2,with the low man always getting the bye.
I played in several and it worked well. Frank ask me to bring this up at the Tenn. open next year and he would have a vote on it. I'm glad to see you brought up this because a 3 point bye every round elevates a weak player too high.

Hello everyone:
I fully agree with Mr. Alex that clocks and notation of moves be required. The minors and majors can use numbered boards. This is another step to professionalize the game and set a standard .

I always liked the divi by ratings[or as near as possible] and many Tys i ran in the past was like that except in name so what did i think of the the outcome?,its the way to go.Ive seen to many people playin ing above their rank on some kinda short lived EGO trip. Most of these dont play any more and you know why.
This begs the question which i was always in fav of HANDICAPS,some may not like it but its the only way to level the playing field,of course youve got to know what your doing .

Re: Men, Women and Youth divisions
not sure about this "numbered board" crap. I bought a OFFICIAL ACF numbered board and I EXPECT to be able to use it in any ACF toun in ANY division. IF someone like Alex or whom ever else decided that they don't want to play with me or my numbered board then, like Alex said about his option; I WILL leave. Period, no questions asked. As to the snide comment about people now knowing the numbers.. I dont know them and really have no intention of ever doing so. I use a OFFICAL ACF NUMBERED BOARD. And Yes, I agree I am not a "real" checker player. OH some "rule" should me made, then not enforced. hahaha oh well, yet more reasons why i don't care to attend tourns anymore. By the way, I still treasure the Lees guide book that John Acker sent me....some people care about us number challenged old coots.

Like Moiseyev you talk alota crap Ted but then yu dont have to back it up b/c yu dont go to Tys,i wonder why ?prob some rule yu dont like eh?. Moiseyev wont have to either b/c most pple he plays knows the numbers.Aye and yur right yu prob are an old dinosaur from the 15th century, who has no notion of promoting checkers.
OH and yes spoiled brats like "ALEX [ILL LEAVE IF I DONT GET WHAT I WANT] MOISEYEV" cannot refuse to play on yur numbered board...period!!Not that yull be playing him anyways b/c"yu dont go to Tys".He can leave HUFF stamp his big feet ,he can even throw the toys out but..........there is no rule that says he can have it his way in the ACF rule book.
So Ted go back stick yur head in the same sand that its been stuck in for all these years and take Mr Moiseyev with you............im sure yu can dry each others tears???????????/

Re: Men, Women and Youth divisions
Colors of boards and pieces never bother me, or if there are numbers doesn't either for that matter. If I can reasonably see everything without glare ect. then anything works for me. However, Ted, when we play on your board I expect you to help me find a good square for my men when they move....you can point to it if you don't want to say the number
