Re: Men, Women and Youth divisions
Ted you are OK. I don't like board with numbers but almost in each ty someone still use it in our games and I accept it. Sometimes I offer my opponent that I will record games on two sheets or make them a copy at the end with my autograph and sometimes this works. In other cases I propose to play one game on the board of my opponent and 2nd game on mine board ... and this also sometimes help as compromise solution.
One time one fellow proposed me to use a coin (ha-ha) and ... he won it and we used his very bright board with damn big squares and pieces (you can use these pieces as weapon, they are very heavvy).
Thats never being a serious problem but I always let people know what I like or dislike. And it's hard to beleive, but common sense and a bit humor works in most cases. We are not fighting for life.

Hello Checker/Draughts players:
We can all agree to disagree in a civil manner . Kim Willis makes a most positive post then we have posts that diminish what she and a few others are attempting to accomplish.
The game is in decline due to few youth coming on board. Also a severe lack of women players. Youth are THE future of the game and women provide a good mix which is very important. The ACF attempts to reach out to everywhere to the far corners of the earth.
Negative posts in reality serve little use . Personally I have no problem with a numbered regulation board. I know that Suki King does not care if the board he plays on is numbered or not. Writing down your moves will slow down your game and you will have your game to refer to later for analysis. Games Editor Jim Loy would like all games to be recorded and submitted for posterity and for game archives.
We are in the holiday season now. Let us try and be nice to each other and each do our part to get involved and promote our wonderful game.
If any of you want to do something really beneficial, I know that Kim Willis needs boards and pieces for her growing youth program.............. Something to consider , thanks !!

Re: Men, Women and Youth divisions
This thread was started in a serious manner and we were having a civil discussion of some issues that seemed important to a few of us anyhow. Then a certain person who posts to every thread and causes them to spiral to a name calling end, showed up. When he showed up and I realized he had ruined another good discussion, I decided to just have a little fun. Sorry Alan if this is offensive to you. You have my permission to kick me off the list (It's really a one man show anyhow lately and not worth the effort)

Hello Wayne:
You and me have had our talk and we are fine
I will make everyone a deal !!
From here on out take all name calling, nasty remarks, anything that will diminish our game, etc. to " Broken Boards " ............................... Any of us can go there if we so desire, but yet we don't have to if we choose not to visit there.
Go to Broken Boards and have at it !! However be advised that if anyone persists in mean spirited posts other than Broken Boards you do so at your own risk.......................
It is not my goal to police and monitor the ACF Forum 24/7 and to be honest that should not be my job.
Actually all of us should work as a team to do all we can to promote our fine game . Guess I am an idealist of sorts.
Other than BROKEN BOARDS please think before you post on any other topic on this forum.

Re: Men, Women and Youth divisions
OK so.... time for good old Strange to make comments...
First off EVERYONE needs to understand that me and my coder are in the process of adding tons of tournament tools to my website!!!! including an auto calculated ratings system!!!!
All old crosstables that need to be calculated were done a certain way and I we have to code to accept the way that alllllll of those were done. Some things are going to change as far as ratings go in the future yes. You guys all need to decide how you want bye's done by the time we finish updating ratings to current then we can make the changes required to make the majority happy and keep it that way. One big change is that David Butlers system is out the window and we are making room for Elo system. I will be happy to type up a big fat rule list of how ALL ratings need to be done from then on out. If anyone wants to stray from the way things are done. Like I heard TN tournament is calculated differently than other tournaments as far as bye's go?? That crap is going to stop or that tournaments ratings will not be calculated at all.
You all can gripe and say... Who made you boss??? I was told by Alan back when I had previously taken ratings position to do whatever I needed to to make it work and took some of his suggestions into account. but to be honest... nobody has been taking the initiative for over 2 years. At one time I handed this job over to Patrick Parker because my old coder got too busy to help anymore. I have a new coder who is working diligently to make the ACF better but he is going to get fed up if I change trny rules on him every 2 weeks. I'm doing my best to make the acf move into the NOW and that's where it needs to be.
I wish someone would open a POLE forum on suggestions for tournament changes like the bye wins etc. that way everyone who has an opinion can vote.... that way we can make 1 time changes once we are caught up and be done with it.
Someone please take care of this!!!
Thank you

Re: Men, Women and Youth divisions
Anything after someone quits a trny will not be counted towards rating.... but those players who did bad in beginning will not be protected because they resigned. They should at least be counted in ratings for the games they played. If the resign in the first half of a set 5 moves in they should be counted as a loss for the entire round. In my opinion anyone who starts a tournament and quit should be counted as a loss every round there after as a complete and total loss. But that is not the way I plan to do ratings as I plan to do them as they have been done for the last few years.
sorry if this did not make total sense... I have had quite a few crown and cokes.

Re: Men, Women and Youth divisions
Hello Eric:
I basically gave you a free hand on ratings and like what I read in your post. I would like to see all tourneys fall under the ACF umbrella. Thus if not under the ACF umbrella then that tourney would not be included in the ACF rating process. I desire to standardize and professionalize the game in America.
It may come to a point that if a tourney is not ACF sanctioned it may not be listed or included in ACF ratings process. This would have to be coordinated thru the ACF District Directors.
Your new web site is fantastic !!
