Cool Shot... check it out
Below is a shot from a 1/0 game played earlier, I am playing red side on this single corner game. This game was played terribly by both sides but the shot at the end for the win was kinda cool and I don't think I have seen it published anywhere. I consulted with Shane Mcosker who also said he had not seen this before. Seems like just a simple endgame Trap/shot. Thought id share it with everyone

Gotta love a game where such things are possible.

LOL you can see inside of the animator that SKYPE grabbed some of those moves and thinks that they are phone numbers and put little flags next to them

Made a quick change to allow problems to be shown with the PDN tag.

It's an old familiar theme by C Wilson dating back to 1901.

Thanks, Liam! Nicely done. Impressive research and scholarship on your part (or perhaps you just recognized it off the top of your head, which is even more impressive...).liam stephens wrote:It's an old familiar theme by C Wilson dating back to 1901.

Nonetheless, no matter who originally played it, it's a pretty piece of checkers artistry.

Re: Cool Shot... check it out
Old stuff Eric. Here's the shot in a game that occurs often, without having to go through the weak positioning
. This line is pretty common against people who play Souter on red and make the 7-11 move on move 27. Most people make the 23-18 move for an easy draw. 23-19 on is probably a bit more unusual for red, with no weakness even if Red doesn't fall for the shot.
Notice the 14-18 on move 47. Psychologically players are inclined to move for king; likewise, red would also believe he could possible trap the pieces on 11 and 15 if white makes a mistake. Move 48 Red will say "hmm..it looks like I can possibly take away a king or trap his man on 10." If red went 12-16 then a trade draws for white.
Thus, to best set this up..you have to take A LOT of time before move 46. It would be best to start going slow after move 26 and pretend you don't remember the easy PP draw. Then closer to move 46, start saying "Damn, I think you got me. I don't know how I'll escape." Then start moving faster. White might be inclined to move faster also..imitation is a human tendency. Thus, good chance white will fall for the shot if he ever gets close to the position at move 46.
