Floods in Queensland, Australia

Post by Danny_Alvarez »

The situation here is critical and I hope it changes but we have 5 more days of rain predicted .... I know my home won't be flooded because it is on top of a hill. But there are 10 dead and 72 missing just yesterday. The SES (queensland state emergency service) is calling for more volunteers to lend a hand and as a past volunteer i might do that. If you do not hear from me for a couple of days, it is not because of recent arguments which i shall not bring into this (i am a tough cookie, and those things dont matter to me). I'll keep you posted later. It is sad that it has come to this but Queensland has been flooded for a week, when it starts touching people you know and gets within 10 kilometres of where you live (around 6 miles i think) it gets personal and more urgent.

This is literally unbelievable and my prayers are with these people.

Let's hope that it all comes back to normal soon.
Cheers
Danny Alvarez
PS don't worry about me, i and my family will be fine. I might get a bit wet but if we dont help others what kind of humans are we?

There wasn't much to be done as most roads were closed and coppers sent us home. Things like this make me thankful that my family and I are ok and I have a place to sleep at night. I also guess that they bring instant perspective as to what is really important, and what is just petty squabbling over nothing.

All flood gates are open ... and things will keep getting worse tomorrow and thursday... as i said b4 Queensland is bigger than Texas by 3 or 4 times and now most of it is under water :(

I added a few videos here for all those interested.

My relatives and I (i have a large extended family) are fine and we all live in suburbs that arent on the danger list for now. Brisbane is already under some water and the rain isnt predicted to stop.

My thoughts are with all those people that are really doing it tough .... i have been whingeing about rain for about a month now, but i never thought it could get this bad. the worst flood in australia's history .

Well done Danny, Keep up the good works !!

There are more important things in life....................................like the Apollo Astronauts...................."doing a great deed for mankind".
Some scientists would have us believe that there is no global warming or ill effects from carbon related emissions, but, the worldwide gasguzzling and pollution of the Planet may prove them wrong.

Cheers to you Danny for trying. I hope things get better sooner than later for those in the path of the flooding.

This morning we woke up with sunshine which is nice but it is a very short interval at 4 pm is supposed to keep raining and the Brisbane river keeps rising despite the fact that not a drop has fallen in 7 hours. It's hard since we can't do much but watch it on tv. Also personally it's very difficult to try and sell houses when we are in the middle of such a crisis. They've told us to go home and called in the army and air force to help.

As I said I will be fine, we are storing things for others that live lower down.
If I am not around here is cause electricity might be cut.
Cheers for everyone and thank you for your support in these trying times.

One must feel sorry for what is happening in Queensland at the moment,Brisbane ,the beautiful city being badly hit by floodwaters and surrounding areas.Just makes you realize what is important in life, and not to take checkers too seriously,as people are being swept away by the floods in Australia.

I couldn't agree more Jan.... I have also seen this last night on the news .... it is terribly sad and the number of dead just keeps rising to astronomical figures.

http://www.news.com.au/breaking-news/br ... 5986915686

Today has been the first day of good news here.... less rain is predicted to fall and in ipswich the river bremer has gone down 5 metres overnight. In Brisvegas (brisbane's nickname lol) the water rose less overnight than expected so fingers crossed we have seen the worst of it. Still cleaning mud and everything else will take a long long time.

cheers
