july 25th Blitz Tournament

Post by kim willis »

Hello Everyone:
I know many of you want information on the Blitz Tournament that is going to be the day before the regular GAYP National this upcoming year. I am working on at this time the format and time control. Plus I also am working on the offical rules at this time.

I want to invite young and old to come and play. This will be the 1st Blitz tournament for Checkers. I hope to see many players if not to play to come and watch. I am hoping to have the newspaper and tv there to record this first time event.
Depending on the entries we have I am looking foreward to a new string of players and games.

I will say there will be no recording of games. Rules we will be placed on this site as soon as I have them. I would like to see our Champion Alex play in this. This could be very interesting to see.

If anyone wants to give any information you may contact me at anytime.

I want to say "LET THE BLITZ BEGIN"

KIm

I applaud the idea Kim, let's hope now that all those nearby attend and make this one and all the ones that follow a success. the rules should be as clear as possible to ensure that success. Overall i think the simple fact you are trying this on is a success in and of itself.

cheers

Thanks for invitation, Kim ! I am waiting now - if ACF accept ot reject my offer to be Referee of Blitz. If I will be appointed - then I will write rules and regulations.

Concerning my participation in Blitz ... still thinking. It will be a cheap victory indeed, because noone plays Blitz better then I do or even close. All babies around  In order to be succeeful in Blitz, you have to think fast and move fast. Ususally most players can do do well only 1 or less than 1 thing.

Wrong ! Blitz is very serious and important business. I think prices must be there at respectable level along with trophies, titles and certificates.

Alex I will try to say this as gently as possible... and although it is a criticism, I believe it is of the constructive kind. First let me state that I am and have been a fan of yours for quite a few years now. So you would understand how I find it dissapointing when I see you trash talking on the forum.

There are a few reasons why this is not right.
• You as the world champion should set a better example for others, specially the younger crowd associated with blitz.
• Out of all people, you and Mr King have the right to trash talk because your records speak for themselves.... but it is very unbecoming.
• Modesty is a virtue.
• The young guys playing 1/0 in kurnik are world champions at trash talking (if nothing else) they need someone to show them the higher road.
• If we are to bring this great game of ours to professional or semi professional standards ... we have to act like it too.
• Last but not least, with great power comes great responsability :) (sorry to quote spiderman)

And the other side o' the coin:

"Now folks, after you have read this introduction, I just know that I have made you laugh. You must think that I am conceited to puff myself up the way I have in this foreward, but I'm not; I am merely conscious of my strength.

Alex.... if your so good at thinking fast then stop running out of time playing 3/2 in Kurnik slowpoke. 3/2 is considered a slow game for us.... and don't forget that with great age comes slow reflexes old man.

Eric, I am tired to explain that using mouse and playing with clocks is a whole different things ... at least for me. John Acker already mentioned once that he witnessed my blitz play with clocks and saw alot of difference.

I agree that 3/2 is not faster than 2/2 or 1/1  but there are certain positions where calculations are crucial and are absolutely necessary. You would never change my opinion here.

When I see and understand that position is a clear win, but I just need 5-10 minutes to calculate everything and comfortably put things together, I can't say my brain - "stop bother me" I rather lose it than make not a perfect move.

Anyway, number of games 3/2 when my flag fails is not so significant and I continue working on this and improve. Just give me some time and be kind to poor Alex

Maybe I am not best of the best player in real events, and not the best player in fast play, but combination skills helps me each separate event.

No one plays close to you in blitz ? you gotta be kidding me right ? why are you always so arrogant ? im a good checkers player as you know, but i don't need to go around telling everyone how brilliant i am, i just let my game do the talking. No need to be arrogant being humble is better.

Hello, Adam !

The Russian joke says: "Egoist is someone who thinks about himslef and don't think abouy myself !"

Anyway, I accept your critics and now change my statement: "I am good Blitz player but there are some other who thinks they are good too".

Are you OK with this ?

BTW. You never played Blitz games with clocks ... did you ?

Respectfully,

Your friend Alex

What do you like about checkers?: In checkers you have to deal with every threat with defense or attacking that man. You can't run away. Face your enemy and never back down. Amen. With a dry cool wit like that I could be an action hero. I am also into tattoos, arm wrestling, beer, the universe/telescopes and the NHL. GO BRUINS!! I started playing checkers at the age of 31. I have a lot of catching up to do.

Being humble is for losers. Alex can say whatever he wants. You should be lucky the best player even posts. Yet you have every "nobody" saying he is rude and arrogant?

Don't listen to them Alex. The champ can say whatever he wants.

I read every single comment posted most was bashing Alex. Its harmless not a big deal if someone brags about skill they have. To have Alex think highly of blitz checkers should make blitz players happy. Danny you mentioned you was a huge fan of Alex for a long time? Did you take time to talk to Alex get to know him or just read up on tournament results. Alex trash talked since the very start but once again its harmless nothing personal against any player in general. I met and played Alex first time in 07. I never forgot his comment to me during the game. I moved, he just looked and looked with his hands on the sides of his head. I said what is wrong Alex? ''He said all your bad moves are confusing me.'' I thought it was funny and took no offense to it I was told thats just Alex and we talk perfectly fine. So lets not cry to much over small things. Phil , we will have to agree to disagree.
1. Being humble isn't for losers.
2. Alex can say whatever he wants, but he (like the rest of us too) should set a better example for younger players
3. I never said he was rude or arrogant... read my post. I said that it was dissapointing to see him trash talking, and that he should set a better example as the world champ.

As i have said just b4, we will have to agree to disagree, obviously. I have no problem respecting your opinion, but at the same time i stand very firmly by what i have said previously.

Billy, once upon a time, I played against Alex online. I havent had the pleasure of meeting him yet. Just because you met him and i have not it doesnt mean i am not entitled to express my opinion, and for the record i am not crying over small things. I believe that what i said was important enough to be said, and if i said it i am sure there are others that are much more shy than i am that are THINKING it without expressing it. We can agree to disagree without belittling each other's point of view, maybe what for me is important for you is a small thing and viceversa.

PS sorry for posting my previous post twice, i dont know what happened
