Why Vote ????

Post by Jay H »

To all ACForumites and ACF members,
I just HAVE to pass this along to you, with no hidden agenda or political motivations. It is just one helluva "cute" story....
Here goes......
I just returned from a visit with my friend Earl Hangen.
During this visit I hand delivered to him his current ACF Bulletin. I have made the arrangement to have his bulletin delivered to my home, since he has been moved to several different nursing homes over the past few years, and I wanted to make sure that his ACFB never got lost or misplaced, as did happen on a few occasions....I believe this may be the only piece of mail Earl receives anymore, and I believe it may help him in maintaining a sense of individuality to receive something with his name on it.
I pointed out to him that this issue contains a ballot for voting, i.e., for the ACF President, Treasurer, etc. Earl is an ACF lifetime member and I just thought he might want to vote.
I did point out to him that there was only one name for each position.
At that point, Former ACF Mail Play Director, Mr. Earl Hangen, a generation ago one of the game's biggest "movers and shakers", director of international tournaments, who has not said more than "Fair" or "Not so good" or "No" to me for the last 18 months looked me square in the eye and asked me with what appeared to be a very strong delberation............

"Well, then,....Why vote?"

The more I thought about it.......I found this to be absloutely hilarious, and burst out laughingImageImageImage ..........and I am still laughing !!

What do you like about checkers?: I enjoy learning more and more as i go. despite its alleged simplicity the game is incredibly complex and rewarding.

I think it is a very valid point from Mr Hangen...

I also think that the fact that nobody has nominated for those positions shows support for the current team and is a great vote (even if there isnt one) of confidence on the current ACF leadership.

Jay,

Can you send Earl Hangen's current address?

I used to send him a Lancashire newsletter but I never got his new address when he moved.

Our bye-laws require an election every two years. It's also possible write-in candidates could emerge. Furthermore, we have a couple districts where the district manager position is vacant. Each Distr. manager position is considered a part of the "board of directors" (plus it would be nice to have an area contact who might be willing to put on a district tournament).
