Pal Bucker's Mother passed away

Post by JR Smith »

Hello Checker Players, you may already know this but I wanted to mention it and pass on our sympathy to Pal. His Mother passed away January 29 and the funeral was rescheduled for February 5 due to coordinating family arrangements, plus 3+ inches of ice and power outages. Edward "Pal" Bucker is a checker player from Mooresville, IN and a faithful poster to this forum.

Hello everyone,

I got in from the cemetery about 10:00 pm (3 hours ago). I wanted to finish digging mother's grave
tonight so I wouldn't have to go back tomorrow morning before her funeral service which starts at noon. About 6:30 I ran out of daylight and called my son-in-law to have him bring me a lantern, he showed up an hour and a half later with two of his buddies and they had shovels in hand, thank God. A policeman was passing as they turned into the cemetery, he turned his car around, called for assistance and followed. We ended up with three cop cars with lights flashing. The first cop got out and said "What are you doing in the cemetery after dark, don't you know it's closed?" He then slipped on the ice and fell to the ground, a second cop then got out of his car, slipped and also fell to the ground. I climbed out of the grave, went over to save the boys from being arrested and made sure the cops weren't hurt. What a night!

Anyway after gettin home I had to clean the mud from my boots change clothes and get a bite to eat. I needed to sit down and relax, I stay up late most night so after a while I turned on the computer and have been reading your posts.

I want to thank everyone, JR, George, Irma, Lindus, John, Tommy, Danny and Jan for your kind expressions of condolences and everyone who has had me and my family in your thoughts and prayers.

It's been a rough week, my brother found my mother on the floor next to her bed last Friday morning and called 911. At the hospital we learned that she had suffered a massive stroke. We all spent the day there and Cindy and I stayed the night with her, my sister returned the next morning to spell us and we went home. A couple of hours later we got the call telling us that she had died.

We had calling Tuesday night during a blizzard, we were surprized that as many people showed up as did. The next morning there was 3 inches of ice and wide spread power outages. Schools have been closed along with many businesses and we had to postpone Mother's funeral until tomorrow.

I'm hoping it will all be over soon but keep me in your thoughts for a few more days.

Many thanks..."Pal"

Tommy,

After the service (1:00 pm) I helped get the vault lid on then ran home and changed into my work clothes, returned to the cemetery and helped the vault man get the vault into the grave so that he could leave. I then went to Mother's house where the family was gathered for a meal and ate some food and visited which gave the vault lid extra time to seattle and seal. (Cold weather thing.) About 4 o'clock I got brother and son-in-law ( He's a good lad, don't you know) to go back with me to fill the grave. Just finished and got back to shop at 11:00.

But this time I called the police dispatcher and told him to tell the officers on duty I'd be working after dark...

Learning to look and think ahead
