i would love to play in a blitz tournament..i just wish it was closer to my homestate... in NJ :\ can we get something going on..closer here..

Dont say that Phil...................i was like 42 when i started [lookin a passtime really] and ive won quite a few Masters Ty events in Ireland,and have a cabinet of trophys from all sections,so dont be put off by yur young 31 yrs........sure yur only a nipper yet.

As matter of fact i might even claim a record [at least in Ireland/GB] of having the most different OPPONENTS in Ty play.I calculate i have a total of 165 different players at all ranges and levels that ive played in my draughts lifetime.Is this a European /irish/ gb /record?? Whatever way it is i enjoyed my journey for thats wat it is..........its not just a game,its much more important than that !!!.

Good man Phil and ill tell yu i played for 2yrs before i got anything till Jim Duffy RIP who was running the Ty gave me a 6 point handicap and i got 3rd or 4th place, i think.WOW.But my first love was Mail play specifically the 10 yrs or so of the breaking down of the 11/12 Barred Openings for xboard play.I was like Denis Cayton dogged and determined but not much of a visionary across the board.So my advise is play what Suits yu.........its always best,whatever yur good at. After all we cant be good at everything we try surely? But............if we dont try it then we wont know what we are good at !!!! hehe.

And if anyone is going to tell me about Eric Strange yes I know he was in Nationals I talked to him and yes I know he is a strong player and he does blitz. So im just saying its not for me totally not knocking it I have alot of friends that play it and seem to be strong. Just my opin on the topic. Billy

I think that 3 minutes is good for gayp.... most decent players can play 90% of gayp by memory. I think 5 minutes would be good for a 3-move game which I think a few less can play just from memory.

I play 1/0, 1/1, 1/2, 2/0, 2/2, 3/2, 5/2 and will pretty much play any other timer depending who the opponent is. I just don't fancy wasting 30 minutes of my day playing someone who is not a challenge to me and waiting for him to think through his lost position. If I was playing Alex or max, jolt, fredo, ray, chee, jay, daniel, clint, clayton or any other strong player then I do not care what the timer is.

I believe playing fast games can bring you up to a good skill level very fast 1-3 years. after that it is time to slow down and analyze to train yourself to see more moves ahead. I think blitzing is good for beginners in my opinion. a new player can stare at the board for 2 hours and not really be analyzing anything worth looking at.

As far as trash talking goes.... I have a forum at http://cross-board.com/forum all you have to do is register...I check daily who tried to sign up and allow anyone who wishes to join. If you want access faster then just email me @ boredgames.net@gmail.com.... I dont mind trash talking of any kind on my site as long as they aren't direct physical threats.

I am very excited about Blitz tournament and I do not agree that this is meant to being us online players into it. Sure this is nice for us but as Alex told me before. Blitz play is used in chess and many other games and it is just a nice added thing to have for everyone. Online players would go to tournaments all the time if life wasn't in the way... Most of the better online players are either in college or right out of college brand new to jobs and don't really have the time or $$ yet.... give it some time and more of us will be going to tournaments. We are running in short supply though... definitely need more SERIOUS players.... I think if everyone started going to yahoo, pogo and facebook checkers and telling players about cross-board.com/checkers for study.... The ACF and live tournaments.... and get them to kurnik.... we could be in good shape.

I proposed ACF 2 options: 3 minutes and 5 minutes to each player for 1 game with resetting clocks.

Eric, I agree that it makes sense to use 3 minutes for GAYP and 5 minutes for 3-moves.

However I recommended ACF for the first time give people a litle bit more time and use 5 minutes option. Not too many people have experience with Blitz with clocks and we must be kind to our small brothers.

The ony problem maybe - if we have good turn over and 20 or more players will show up. In this case Robin Round will take 6-8 or more hours.

Maybe as compromise - 4 minutes ... ?

Eric, what GAYP memory you are talking about ? In ACF National Master Division classic publish play usually never goes higher than 50% - 60% and many games are original. And Major and Minor players PP knowledges usually are limited by Old 14th main line

Eric, if you will be in Medina, we'll play less then 1 minute per game ... something like 5-8 minutes for 10 games. It's not so slow as in Internet where boring 1/0 is minimum

Keep in mind Alex.... I am a player who is new to clocks and real boards. I think I can pick up on it very quickly though. I do agree maybe it is a good idea to make 5 min games for players who are new to clocks to get used to them... otherwise players may be discouraged by it before it even becomes a "Thing".

Fast Mover Poem
Fast Mover was a real checker nut.
Everywhere he went,
he carried a checkerboard under his arm,
but never any checkers.

At the institute where his doctor had him committed for observation,
another patient asked him to play a game.
“Can you handle the Octopus?” Fast Mover asked.
“No, man, I don’t mess with no octopus,” the other patient turned and hastened away.

The doctor of the ward sent for Fast Mover to come to his office.
Of course, he took the checkerboard under his arm.

“Where are your checkers?” the doctor asked him.

“Don’t need any,” Fast Mover replied.
“I know all the games by heart. Want to play a game?”

“Sure, you move first,” the doctor told him,
wanting to placate his patient.

“Okay, 11-16,” Fast Mover offered.

“Then I'll go 47-49,” his doctor countered.

“That’s a losing move,” Fast Mover exulted,
where upon he picked up his board.

When Fast Mover left the hospital grounds,
staff members were running this way and that trying to locate him.
One attendant run up and asked a man,
“Have you seen a crazy man come by here?”

“What does he look like?”

“He’s about your height and he’s carrying a checkerboard under his arm like yours. But he doesn't have a mustache like yours.
If you see him, let us know,”
the attendant turned and ran off.

Fast Mover took his finger from under his nose and chuckled,
“That ‘Cook’ sure worked.”

Alex obviously we have a difference of opinion and we will have to agree to disagree.

In my opinion, a champion at any discipline, (whether they admit it or not) is a role model for others. Because of that their actions and conduct are always on display. Being a world champion at anything comes with responsabilities, especially when young people look up to you. I am not talking about pretending to be nice or saying nice things, i believe you are missing my point completely. You keep doing your thing, but you ARE a role model Alex. (think about that).
