my prayers are with you guys, lets hope that there's no more earthquakes and that the aftershocks die down eventually.

Re: Christchurch-New Zealand
Seems like another bad earthquake in NZ ,thank god Jans safe and sound, there was an irish guy from Christchurch talking on our local radio station this morning saying there was 65 dead and alot trapped in their houses too.H e was afraid of the after shocks as they can be as bad apparently.
Always read "Cannings Compilation 2nd Edition" every day.
Re: Christchurch-New Zealand
The aftershocks have been bad, bringing down buildings, because they centred just below the surface as was the big one yesterdayThe CBD is the worst affected and many people are still trapped in buildings, one of them burning. This is a shock for us all,our last big earthquake was the napier one about 100 years ago,and we always thought and were told by experts that if another one hit it would be in Wellington, which is right on the fault line.We are all stunned at the severity of it.

Thanks Lindus,we are all so stunned.Just sitting around watching the news, very hard to concentrate on anything else.Wondering how are the draught players are in Christchurch, weve held our national there the last few years,in fact this is the first time we are playing in lower hutt, which is beside Wellington in the north island.I fly up there tomorrow, but am worried about the christchurch players. We cant ring them,as they are trying to keep the phones free for emergencies.80 percent of the city doesnt have water at the moment.Have heard horrific tales of people being crushed in cars and on the sidewalks in the city.
Im afraid checkers isnt that important at the moment. My sister and her daughters live in Christchurch, theyre okay, but with the continued aftershocks, some quite severe ,its a bit of a worry.Like i said before Jack Van Niewkirk, that grand old man of checkers, and New Zealand checker champion is meant to be flying out of Christchurch tomorrow for the national,i seriously doubt he will be coming,Christchurch airport is only allowing emergencys in and out of the city, like family coming back to find their familys,or foreigners getting out of Christchurch.
You know New Zealand has always been a pretty safe haven for us,and we were congratulating ourselves that nothing really bad happens here, well this has all changed now,and weather patterns are changing.
When the earthquake struck,i was upstairs in a shop in Invercargill, and people were watching it happenm on TV.I stood beside a young lady who was visibly shaken,as we all were, and she said "You know the worlds meant to end next year and ive just found happiness."I said well it probably wont end,but there may be really bad weather patterns with the aligning of the planets. As long as you know where yure going if you do die, thats the most important thing"She agreed. But everyone becomes more aware of their own mortality when something like this happens.
New Zealand is just a little country, and this earthquake has effected our stability. One of the huge glaciers sheered off tons and tons of ice into the Mount Cook lake with this last earthquake.Lytlleton harbour from where it was centred is closed and dare knows whats happened there,.We are a nation in shock. Re: Christchurch-New Zealand
the rescuers (some of which have worked for 36 hours straight) are starting to lose hope of rescuing anybody else alive...
my prayers are with everyone in NZ and specially those in and around Christchurch and Canterbury....
The death toll is steadily climbing as they found more bodies
the worst bit is theres over 200 unnacounted for still.
Lets hope that they can find a few more ... despite everything else i think it would lift the spirits of those helping the victims of this terrible ocurrence.

Yeah... I don't mean to be mean... but can you post topics like this in broken boards (all things non checkers related)....
I just don't see how this has to do with the game and I have been seeing a lot of topics like this posted in this section.

Eric, don't worry, everything is OK and under control - the entire forum looks like broken board for long period of time, not much difference. You can post anything you want anywhere.Eric Strange wrote:topics like this in broken boards
ACF website and forum must be separated.
I don't think official ACF website needs any forum at all - only news updated, games, positions and tournament news / announcements. If someone wants to talk and needs to be listening - (s)he can use psychology doctor.
I am playing checkers, not chess.
