What do you like about checkers?: I enjoy learning more and more as i go. despite its alleged simplicity the game is incredibly complex and rewarding.

My Tuesday-night checkers interview is located at the link below. Unfortunately, I guess there was a snafu with the video recording, so this link is audio only. Oh well. :( On the right side of the sportstalknetwork site (after scrolling down a bit) is a small vertical panel of on-demand broadcasts. Mine is "fdhlounge 20110222" and you can also click across this tiny bar to advance and go back. My piece ran from 13:45-50:00 (out of three hours), then it goes to commercial. The first half was mostly question-and-answer dialogue. Then we moved to my playing a game with Rick and then with his buddy, and then I set up a shot problem (#52 in Lees' Guide). So I imagine this game section is fairly useless without the video. I then made a closing plug for the upcoming National Tournament and World Title Match. After coming back from the commercial break, he made some closing remarks after I had left. Sounds like my appearances might become a regular gig a couple times a year.

This is a very good interview about checkers. The audio, with banter during the games, is well worth listening to, even without the video. --George Hay

JohnAcker wrote:Just a thought: while full-length interviews or news coverage may be rare (but much appreciated), in my experience checkers comes up in conversation more than you might think. I've found it helpful to have an "elevator speech" about checkers ready, and would recommend that all potential ambassadors of the game do likewise. Even if you don't consider yourself a particularly strong player, being able to articulate why you play and why you want others to play can be very effective-- you never know who might be listening!
I agree totally John .... in real estate speak we call it a script.... it is something that you pre-arrange in your head anticipating a potential problem the vendor (seller) might have ... so it gives you time to polish your reasoning in your head so when you use the script the dialogue sounds more natural, logical and attractive :)

I thought the interview was a raving success and he (the interviewer) seemed genuinely interested in the game and in what Richard had to say. The invitation to come back was just the icing on the cake

cheers
