What do you like about checkers?: I enjoy learning more and more as i go. despite its alleged simplicity the game is incredibly complex and rewarding.

They are saying that there are 2 reactors in "possible" meltdown and they arent sure because they cannot get close enough to find out... I am not a nuclear scientist, but if the reactors are overheating and they are left to their own devices i think a meltdown is inevitable.

i read this timeline this morning.... 5 hours later i think the likelihood of meltdown is getting higher and higher...

Fukushima No. 1 power plant:

- The Japanese government says meltdowns may have occurred in two nuclear reactors at plant no. 1.
- On Saturday, a huge explosion tore away the outer concrete housing of reactor one at plant no. 1, but it left the steel reactor intact.
- After the explosion, the plant's operator TEPCO took the drastic step of using seawater to cool reactor one.
- Early Sunday, TEPCO said radiation levels had surpassed the legal limit at no. 1 plant, but said this posed no "immediate threat" to human health.
- Then TEPCO warned that another reactor, number three, at the same plant was also overheating and that so much water had evaporated at one stage that the top three metres of mixed oxide fuel rods were exposed to the air.
- A TEPCO spokesman later said the rods were covered again.
- The government has evacuated people from a 20-kilometre radius around the facility.

Fukushima No. 2 power plant:

- People have also been moved out of areas surrounding plant no. 2, which has four reactors.
- One person has been killed and four injured in a crane accident at no. 2 plant, the UN's nuclear watchdog IAEA said.
- IAEA also said one worker at the plant was exposed to higher-than-normal radiation levels.

Let's hope this can be contained as quickly as possible.... it is a really regrettable situation, and a lot more lives are now in peril... not just for the next few weeks but for decades to come.

there is another Tsunami coming to hit Japan, i just heard on the radio.
they had a 5.8 quake and there's a 3 m tsunami approaching North-east Japan as we speak. My prayers are with the Japanese people.

When is this going to end?

Visited Christchurch this last weekend. Was sad to see the beautiful garden city in disarray after the earthquake.Lots of beautiful homes on a lean, portaloos on every corner, and beautiful historical places being demolished. They say it will take 10-15 years to rebuild the city, with a projected cost of 30 billion dollars. So sad, Jan
