Re: GAYP QT 2011 in Italy.
1. Alex can play at the QT.
In that he is wrong.
This year is GAYP time, at which Ron King is WC. I see no problem here.
And regarding his strenghts he is likely to be the number one representative of the ACF or the ICHF if he only plays.
2. Danny, the WCDF holds an annual election.
Quite a short term compared to the parliaments in Australia, the USA, Germay or elsewhere.
All our executive board members are known, and can be addressed by email, letters, if you meet them in tournaments, etc.
http://wcdf.wz.cz/statutes.htm
Each federation may sent a representative to the GA, and the QT is choosen because it is the place where most federations are ikely to meet, to secure a maximum attendance.
Also it is possible to ask another federations representative to act as a proxy, if that federation can sent no own reprsentative.
Danny, your voice is heard, and if you are a member of a federation or if you found a federation your vote will also be counted.

Re: GAYP QT 2011 in Italy.
The main reason I can't play - vacation time. This year several days of my vacation were eaten by kids activities commitments. Paul gets 16 this year in August and can drive on his own or even drive Clara (after I pass away huh), so ... maybe in 2013 I can make itIngo_Zachos wrote:Alex can play at the QT
In 2004 after winning USA GAYP National 2003 in Anderson, I had rights last time under old system (before WCDF was created) to challege Ron, but WCDF told me that this is not appropriate. Later in 2004 Jack Francis challenged Ron and played match with him in summer 2004 and this was appropriate.
In other hands, GAYP is not my style. Incidentally I was a winner of ACF GAYP in 1999, 2003, 2nd place in 2001, tied 2-4 in 2005, however the only reason is - because GAYP is just a part of 3-moves (about 20%-25%). But it requires a different skills which I probably don't have at the highest level.
My GAYP World Title match with Ron King in 2000 was tied and ended up 3-3-18 but Ron improved his play since this time and today it is much harder to get him in GAYP.I think for 10 years, if we don't count his losses in our match, he lost only 2 games in GAYP: to me in 2004, 1st International USA vs Barbados, and to Richard Beckwith in GAYP WCM 2010. This is quite impressive stability.
Ron is a good boy and why not let him to keep his toy (GAYP title) ?!
In the upcoming QT in Italy 2011 I bet on Richard Beckwith, James Morrson and Shane McCosker. It would be a true to say that Lubaalo Kondlo also has chances if he attend it.

Alex

Alex isn't it great that despite the fact we all agree there arent many strong newcomers, most of those guys you mentioned are relatively very young??Alex_Moiseyev wrote:

Don't know exact figures, but average age for these 4 fellows is 40 (or very close)Danny_Alvarez wrote:relatively very young??
My calculations are based on assumptions:
Shane - 25
Lubabalo - 35
Rich - 42
Jim - 58

Re: GAYP QT 2011 in Italy.
It is too early to give any predictions.
Wait until we have a list of nominations.
So far not even one player has been nominated if I am right.
All the names Alex mentioned are all former QT winners, except Shane who came very close and is still young.
I think he forgot to mention Michele Borghetti, and Sergio Scarpetta is also very good, as are other italian players.
Not to mention that the Durdyev brothers Baghtiyar (how old is he?) and Mustafa are strong.
And never count William Docherty out.
Also there are possible "newcomers" like Michele Borghetti 2010 or Raivis Paegle 2008, who in fact were not too young, but also not unexperienced tournament players that turned out to be very strong contenders.
I remember that we had a disussion with Czech and Italian players in Fossano 2009 what would happen if say Schwartzmann, Sijbrands, Georgiev etc. would seriously take up "Checkers" or Italian Dama.
In my mind they would be able to compete at least at grandmaster level with say only a few month preparation.
And there are other good players like John McElhone, Michael Shabshai, Filip Kareta (is he younger then Shane?), Jiri Sysel, Igor Martynov, Jack Francis, Michael Holmes, Chuck Freemann, Anthony Bishop, etc. who are not top favorites, but able to beat any grandmaster on a good day.
Sad that Alex can't make it, but I think his priority in 2011 is defending his toy as 3-move World Champion.
All I know is that 2011 will be an exciting year with great events to come.

And,.... let's not be so remiss as to not include the recently returning Clayton Nash, who by all accounts (even Moiseyev) gave a stellar performance at the recent Tennessee tourney.....Ingo_Zachos wrote:And there are other good players like John McElhone, Michael Shabshai, Filip Kareta (is he younger then Shane?), Jiri Sysel, Igor Martynov, Jack Francis, Michael Holmes, Chuck Freemann, Anthony Bishop, etc. who are not top favorites, but able to beat any grandmaster on a good day.

Re: GAYP QT 2011 in Italy.
I know that Clay seriously plans to play in Medina GAYP National in August. I also really wish he can attend and play in QT, but his financial situation is still far from perfect and may prohibit him doing so.Jay H wrote:And,.... let's not be so remiss as to not include the recently returning Clayton Nash, who by all accounts (even Moiseyev) gave a stellar performance at the recent Tennessee tourney.....![]()

Don't forget - there is also a JOKER which beats all other cardschampion374 wrote:aka ace theres is a king and jack already
I think you can make it (if you have money to travel), because formally two Barbados Federations affilated to WCDF: BCDF, Barbados Checkers abd Draughts Frderation, and BDA (not sure I spelled it correctly) - Barbados Draughts Association.
But if two of them will be presented in QT this year, EACH should pay an annual fee $100 to WCDF.
If you want me to add your name to the list of favorites, I owe 2 beers from you

Re: GAYP QT 2011 in Italy.
It was a social provisional list of potential winners of QT - see this topc above. I mentioned James Morrison, Richard Beckwith, Shane McCosker and Lubaalo Kondlo as potential winners. Later I added here Clayton Nash if he decides to come. Now I realize that I also should add Jack Francis.champion374 wrote:alex where can i see the list your adding my name to?
Suki can't play in Italy because he is already GAYP World Champion and doesn't need to earn a Challenger rights..
JOKER plays in poker for instance and some other card games. This is my favor card
If you plan to go to Italy, I would seriously recommend you to play before in USA GAYP National 2011 in August (before QT in October) - it will be a great training for you and other.

I am proud to take an opportunity and make officiall annoncement on this site that Kent Layne from Barbados is another very potential and danger candidate who has all chances to win a GAYP Qualify torunament 2011 in Italy in October.
I'll give you later directions to whom you should take two beers in Italy which I owe now.
