Won this prestigious checker event on January 31st, 1944. Checker Trivia question of the Day". Where was this checker event held and what was the first prize? (Cont.)

U.S. Navy Aircraft Carrier: USS Franklin (CV 13) was commissioned Jan. 31, 1944 in Newport News, VA., Capt. James M. Shoemaker in command.

The checker tournament was held onboard the USS Franklin and the first prize was a one of a kind checker set with a picture of the USS Franklin on it. Capt. James Shoemaker was the winner of this unique checker event. Go to google.com--type in Capt. James M. Shoemaker. (Cont.)
