Found it! It's Piffle Rag dated 1914 by Gladys Yelvington. It's on Prof. Bill Edwards' website.

The Primeline MIDI Library has a recording of Checkers Rag written by Harry J. Lincoln of Pennsylvania in 1913.

The sheet music cover shows a checker board. The sheet music is from the Charles Templeton Sheet Music Collection of the Mississippi State University Libraries.

John, the pdf files from Mississppi State University do tend to download slowly, I just tried it on my computer and it was very slow this time. An alternative might be to try to download from an earlier page by clicking on "Access this item." in the middle of the page:

If you cannot download the pdf file, I would gladly send you by mail a hard copy of the Piffle Rag.

What do you like about checkers?: I enjoy learning more and more as i go. despite its alleged simplicity the game is incredibly complex and rewarding.
